This would be at 160 since Carter never moved up.
Befor this gets dismissed as a Benn cake walk by some im talking about a Carter at his absolute best. I know his career was erratic so im talking the Carter that KO'd Griffith went to War with Benton and Knocked Fernandez out of the ring.
That Carter was firing on all cylinders. Fast hard snapping punches good reflexes ect.
This would of course be against a 160 lb. Benn at his best version at this weight.
    How does this play out.

nigel really wasn't very good at 160. yes he was entertaining, could punch through walls and was vicious. but he was wreckless, his stamina questionable, defence porous and lacked plan b when plan a didn't succeed. if you could ride out the initial storm he was very beatable.

he was so much better at 168. his power diluted but he was much cuter, implemented a much improved defence and had the experience to see out the bigger fights.

if carter takes him deep its very winnable.

This is a damn good match up...The Carter that stopped Griffith and Fernandez...and even when he decisioned Benton was a force. His combinations were tight and powerful...I can see a scenario where Carter is more patient here, and allows Benn to air it out at first, and then comes on stronger at the end...But Nigel is a true wild card though...on a whole I don't think Carter is as good defensively as a Watson...so when Benn is throwing like hell...I think he would find Carter more often, becaue Carter would engage more...and also consider that Watson and Eubank for that matter were huge middleweights, and Carter, while he was very durable, was a smaller middleweight. Tiger could put Carter down...but not out...I don't think Benn could do it either, even though he carries more power than Tiger...I could see a strange scoring in this fight...I think Carter would score more rounds, but I think Benn could possibly have a couple of knockdowns that would sway the scoring in a 10 rounder.
    Benn SD Carter
(I'll take Benn no question @ 168 though)

    Good post.
I can c both men scoring knock downs.
These guys could be such a force when there on.
Like u said above Carters game could be so tight and sharp that i can also c him winning this.
A very close call that could go either way.

Classic H. Carter quote pre-fight before the E. Griffith fight: "No Welterweight in the
world needs to be in the ring with me".

Two fierce intense fighters at 160 lbs. Both fighters would try to blast each other out early. Like Benn against Barkley and Carter vs Griffith. Benn at MW hadn't fully evolved fully as a fighter and his stamina suspect.
At MW Carter in 6 rds but at SMW Benn on pts.
