Benn was WBO champ after defeating DeWitt and Duran had just beaten Barkley.

How would this pan out against a young, up and coming Destroyer vs a wiley and still capable legend?

Duran was so clever and Benn didn't have the one-punh kayo like Hearns. Duran by decision.

I think Roberto would win it...just.

Benn had only recently lost to Watson aswell and was still learning his craft...but there was no doubting the man's power..it was something else.

I think Roberto would probably grind out the decision...possibly he could stop a gassed Benn depending on Nigel's tactics..but seeing it was post Watson he would probably not have fought the same as he did in that fight.
Either way this is a fight I see Duran being able to take.

It would have been a very tough fight for Duran to win but I'd say he does win it. Benn had great power so a knockdown wouldnt be surprising but the way Duran fought inside would have been to his advantage as Benn wasnt exactly a jab and move guy.

NOPE!! Benn beats Duran in '89 / 1990...... My man Duran had a "One Fight Wonder" against a weight drained Iran Barkley in Feb. of 1989 on PPV.... I realize that Duran was in great shape, however, he also had a guy who owned a porus defense and was there to be hit.... In '89, Nigel Benn was still green but capable and strong at 160 pounds.... By 1989, Roberto Duran had to carefully select his 160 pound opponents and title holders..... Cheers....

I found "Duran-Leonard 3" in 1989 very disturbing.... Leonard looked to box without ever really trying to engage Duran, and Duran seemed disinterested to press the issue... All in all, it was a high-profile sparring match..... Cheers....

Duran is obviously one of the GOAT, but back in the day Benn was an absolutely vicious puncher with great power who swarmed all over his opponents. Too close to call really, although Duran would be the favourite, even in 89-90.

I'd favor Benn but a Duran win isn't out of the possibility(it never is)

Benn by late stoppage with Duran ahead.

Duran went the distance with Barkley - Benn sent him to the moon and back, in the first round.

This post made me realize that I haven't seen enough of Duran from this particular part of his career to judge properly.

I do know that Benn was a monster in '89/90, so if Duran was badly faded, then I would certainly say Benn.
