    Hi,

Long time reader first time poster here.

I just watched the Benn McClellan fight for the first time since the actual night of the fight.

I know this is now tainted by the tragic consequences but man what a barbaric fight.

Nigels finest moment without a shadow of a doubt and much like Eubanks after the second Watson fight never the same boxer again.

Was also good to see Bruno bellowing encouragement from rinf side just like Nigel did for him against McCall

Thanks. I remember watching Kirkland on sports night as a kid. Hugely entertaining more people should know about him

Benn was badly hurt, but when his back was against the ropes he fought at his best. He had a gunslingers chance against any fighter in his prime at middleweight. The only problem was, the really durable, elite fighters could take his shots and could break him down with theirs when Benn tired.
Great fighter, made the early 1990's a fantastic time for UK boxing.
The rivalry with Eubank I would love to see again with other UK fighters.

I remember watching this as a kid, thinking it was all over for Benn after the first round.

I remember they did a documentary on him on Sportsnight I think it was years ago... There is a cracking peice on YouTube with KL with Steve Bunce, have you seen it?

The year after he beat Duran, Duran went onto make $3m... What an injustice and sad way that it has all panned out...

Strange I was just watching that Bunce piece on utube. Very sad.
Shame he could not give back to the sport pass some of those skills on

The post-fight tragedy usually clouds the fact that this was one of the greatest fights ever (no hyperbole). Can't believe Benn weathered that early storm.:-(

TBH though, having said all that, I still have never watched the fight since the night it happened, even though I have had it sat in my fight collection all these years. There's like a superstition that surrounds it for me, given the aftermath.

PS: Love the username. Robocop rules:good
