Did Benn have a chance in either fight?

Obviously with his power, anything is possible. Not to mention what James Toney showed up.

But would you pick Benn over these two?

Big fan of Benn but the only argument I could have for him defeating either would be jumping on either from the start and a surprise stoppage.

Honestly couldn't see anything other than Benn being stopped by both of them.Benn had a style that both would of picked apart and punished.

Toney beats Benn every time. Benn beats Jones every time.

    Nearly every time.

Benn is made for Toney - wide shots vs tight shots, swinging off-balance leads vs stable, quick, compact countering.

And six rounds with Benn at his most aggressive is simply too many rounds for Jones to escape. Jones had technically awful, reflex-based defense, and nobody had better natural punching levers or more ferocity than Benn.

Benn loses very badly versus both. Both stop him. Vs Toney it will LOOK like a really good fight but the reality is he was always destined to lose and one step behind.

I would never in a million years bet money on Jones beating Benn.

Loved watching Benn fight, the man was a machine... but both Toney & Jones beat him.

As has already been said on this thread, Toney would have been ALL wrong for Benn.

    1. You'll struggle to find a better chin in the game than James Toney and has hard as Benn could bang, if any man was going to take and shake off his power it's Toney.

    2. Benn would often throw shots that would be thrown from his feet!! His upper body movement and winging shots could throw his opponents rhythm off but it would be his downfall against Toney.. he'd leave himself open and against a guy as savvy, technically sound and with the ability of Toney, he'd get beat.

I would favour Benn have beaten both.
Benn to beat Toney on points and Jones possibly by late KO.
Toney had problems with pressure against Tiberi and Williams and I think it would be far tougher with Benn.
