Following Macklin's Take this week, where him and Buncey were talking about Benn-Eubank 1, I'm thinking of revisiting them bouts given I was too young to properly be into them at the time. Going to start with Benn- Watson. Barring the obvious, are there fights I should be watching, that took place between the big British clashes? Cheers
Benn and Eubank both fought big hitting Henry Wharton around that time, could be worth checking those fights out, he went the distance with them both. Great time for British boxing.
I watched a lot of Eubank, Benn, Watson Collins at the beginning of year. Well worth it and killled some time in the first lockdown. Eubank had many controversial close fights that divded fans and judges opinions. Out of these fights I scored the following: I had Eubank winning: Vs Watson 1 115-113 Vs Mallinga 115-112 V Close 1 & 2 - I had Eubank winning both in close fights. I had Eubank losing: Vs Benn 2 113-114 Vs Schommer 1113-117 (Schommer was robbed) Vs Collins 1 - I had Collins winning by 2 points. Vs - Collins 2 - Not as good as the previous fight lthough clearer win for Collins in my opinion. I had Eubank drawing 114-114 with Rocchigiani in a fight with a lot of tough scoring rounds. Benn vs McClellan has to be the pick out of the bunch of the fights for me. Benn vs Barkley another extremely impressive display from Benn. As for the Wharton vs Benn & Eubank fights. I thought Eubank gave Wharton a boxing lesson what was one of his most impressive peformances. Wharton gave Benn a close fight that I had Benn edging.
Eubank v Rocchigiani was a fabulous performance. Benn v everyone. Watson-Eubank II the best of all. Watson fights out of his skin, and Eubank really proves greatness.
