Man I must have seen Baaad Bennie live 10 times. Tito was nothing compared to him at 160. And the younger mean Briscoe I saw beats the **** out of middleweight Hopkins. That Briscoe I would take to defeat Hagler. Thx for the memories Bennie!!!!!!!

**** youutube. Sometimes you have to be there and close up to realize the power of some fighters. I found Franklin Duran and Smokin Joe to be in this category too. Middleweight hopkins isn't trading with Bennie. Hopkins was no dancing master. He would try his tri c ks, get decked , take a brut a l slow beatdown then feign injury like against Allen and the other guy. Bennie crushes that convict heart w glee. Bennie loved beating fighters up.

Bad Bennie Briscoe was one of my favorite fighters and one of the few bald head bad dudes back then - we had Yul Brenner & Telly Savalas and a few others like Isaac Hayes
Benny went to Argentina to draw with Monzon and fought many tough Philadelphia fighters _ Hopkins became an excellent boxer- smart and crafty but I think Benny would have been the toughest guy he fought at middleweight - they may split some in a series but Benny wins a few

Bad Bennie Briscoe was in there with the likes of,Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Carlos Monzon, Tony Mundine, and Rodrigo Valdes. He lost on points to Hagler, in 1978, fought to a 10 round draw, in 1967 against Monzon, but lost in a title bid by unanimous 15 round decision to him in 1972, knocked out Mundine in 1974, round 7, then was knocked out by Valdes in 1974, as well as losing on points to Rodrigo in 1973, and 1977 respectfully. Hopkins has quite a resume as well, and a World Light Heavyweight title to his credit. Both can hit very hard, Hopkins displays a better defense, although Briscoe can be overly cautious at times in big fights. He staggered Monzon in their title bout in Argentina, in round 9. Bernard pulls out this affair with a thin majority decision. Both fighters will show the wares of this contest on their faces. But expect it to be action packed, each will stagger the other, especially in the final round.

Guys I respect Briscoe but he was not in Hopkins class , period. Bernard outpoints him over the distance by controlling the pace, smothering Briscoe inside and making him miss. Bernard could be a jerk and was pretty boring to watch but he was effective. It would take the highest class of middle to beat him. A Monzon, a Hagler, that caliber and even for them not easy. Hopkins was tough, talented, gifted defensively and a spoiler type.

Bennie is the only fighter I've ever seen back up Hagler, great pressure fighter- If Echols could force Bhop to go toe to toe, so, too does Briscoe.

Hopkins gets off the canvas, adjusts by late mid round 7-8 taking the last 4 to win on points. Scores look kinda wide, but Hop shows up at post fight conference wearing shades.

It's possible .. Bernard was just a tough guy to fight .. he could force meant to fight at his pace .. he was like quicksand .. and he was pretty strong .. I 'm not sure Hagler was strong enough mentally which to me was Marvin's only key weakness at 160. I'm not as high on Monzon as some who think he walked on water but he might have been the type of beast that matched up well w BHop ..
