10 rounds at middleweight. Detroit versus Philadelphia. Two hard hitting, durable contenders...Who do you take?

    bravecubs,

Do you have any memories to share about a fighter by the name of Joey Archer? You rarely hear his name mentioned anymore nowadays but he was a damn fine boxer with a beautiful jab. I have always wanted to track down his fight against Dick Tiger which he won, did you see this fight by any chance?

As for how a fight between Bad Bennie and Hammerin` Hank would unfold, I`ll take the best version of Henry to eek out a split duke. I wouldn`t bet a dime on the fight though, as Bennie`s jab may offset Henry enough to where he wouldn`t be able to walk in and mix it up the way he would like. Great fight though, the kind you want to be ringside for.

    bc,

It brings a smile to see your mention of Tony Anthony. Not only do I remember him from the gym, but running into him several times as the bouncer in a Greenwitch Village club after he retired.

If anyone had champion written all over him coming up, it was Tony -- whatta picture puncher!

Thank you for the taking to reply bc, and it is a pleasure to meet you too. Make sure to stick around these parts, as you will get a lot of opportunitys to share your opinion here concerning fighters and fights from the 50s and 60s. I`ve always wondered why Joey hung up the gloves after his rematch with Griffith... to me he looked really good in both of their fights and I had him losing by a mere C-hair both times. My favourite Archer fight would have to be the one against Holly Mims, what a war that was!

As for Jose Gonzalez I have his fights against Tiger and Floro Fernandez (the first one) and I agree he was some fighter.... stopped Rubin Carter on a badly cut eye in a shootout, and you had to be one tough hombre to swap bombs with Carter. Archer also fought and defeated Carter, that is another fight I`d love to get a hold of and see for myself.

But going back to Holly for a moment, he is one of those fighters who`s win/loss record doesn`t tell the whole story. He had to wear the cuffs on several occasions and fight in the other guys home turf with all odds stacked against him... but Holly being the have gloves will travel type didn`t complain and went about his business. An underrated fighter that Mims was and still is, he would definately win a title today thats for sure. Check your pm box later bc, I`d like to talk with you for a bit in private.
