Let say 15 rounds. I think I know how this will go but it could be interesting. I like this fight in my head.
Briscoe by late stoppage, he was as tough as they come and had an iron jaw. Hearns would probably be ahead on points, but sooner or later Briscoe catches up to him. And since you said 15 rounds, it favours Briscoe even more IMO.
Hearns was very good against boxers Hill, Leonard, Benitez, but aggressive sluggers who could take his punches were more of a threat to him. That's why i favour Briscoe at Middleweight especially over the 15 round distance. At Welterweight that wasn't much of a problem, because virtually no one could take that right hand of his. But as he moved up and the fighters were bigger and could take his punches better, it become a bit more of an issue especially since Hearns chin wasn't exactly granite. Although to be fair to Hearns he was still a very dangerous puncher even at Middleweight, but i feel like Briscoe has the chin to withstand Hearns punches early on.
I think Briscoe would beat Iran Barkley …but I don’t know if Briscoe would cause Hearns the same problems that Iran Barkley did
Could go either way. If Hearns fights a perfect fight, maintaining distance and landing and moving and keeping Briscoe off of him, I could see him winning by a ref stoppage sometime getting into the later rounds, with Briscoe's eyes shut. But if he's unable to do that, it's going to be a long night for Hearns in a bad way. Hagler, who had a far better chin than Hearns, didn't want to trade power punches with Briscoe and boxed his way to victory rather than get into a war with someone so rugged. If Hearns can't impose HIS fight on Briscoe, Briscoe takes him late or wins like Barkley.
What a fight ! I voted for Tommy but when I think back to the peak Briscoe pushing the great Carlos Monzon so hard, my confidence is severely dented. If Hearns is to win here, he has to be on his absolute A Boxing game. Stick, move, draw and counter. If he gets in the trenches with Bennie, he's not coming out.
