    You can have the head off center but the shoulder in position to roll and counter right hands coming in. But if you don't do that and the head is too off center to slip outside (to the left) a right and your left hand is low, then you're open to straight rights.

    Louis was outclassing everyone because he was recording phenomenal results against guys like Retzlaf, Uzcudun, Levinsky, Ramage, Lazar, Peroni, Ettore and Poreda in much better fashion than anyone else was -and they were all solid guys.

    What is supposed to be proved here?

    That if you're to base a fighter off of reports from his worst defeat, then Frazier has a bad left hook.

    Exactly, and the reason this is so is you ignore the questions you have no answer to!

    excerpt from 'Primo Can't Stand Punishment; Quits in 53 Secs. of 3d'

    Italian Driven Back

    The Italian giant was steadily driven back beneath this barrage of leather into Haynes' corner. With his enemy cornered [Haynes] shot a punishing hook to the jaw and followed it up with a devastating right to the Carnera chin that turned the Italian half way around and sent him to his knees facing the frenzied spectators, who were now on their feet in a condition of hysteria.

    It's the history of Carnera that he will never stay down--and this was no exception.

    Haynes pumped in lefts and rights to jaw and body so fast that it would have taken an adding machine manned by an expert accointant to have kept track of the punches.

    It is beyond unreasonable to use the Haynes fight as an argument against him.

    If you made any allowance for a fighter being past their prime, you would make it here.

    Not that this adds anything to the discussion but I just read a passage in 'Notes of a Dirty Old Man' by Bukowski;

    '….and the landscape brain of Primo Carnera going down under the dull playboy guns of c0cksure Maxie Baer - new heavyweight champ of America'

    Just struck me as a strange coincidence considering I was reading this thread then opened up the page where I left off to read about the very topic I just had on here. Carry on….

    Did Preem have a short prime then? He was only 29 and had just come of a KO victory of Gastanaga, not more than two weeks earlier.

    Carnera against novice Impelletiere.

    "Carnera had trouble reaching Ray at first and was actually outboxed by the comparatively inexperienced upstart in the opening sessions.

    No he had kidney failure. You know, where the blood slowly poisons the body? He finally got a kidney removed and was a diabetic the rest of his life.
