Why do you always leave out significant information, you know without a doubt about his early career so you should factor that in but no that wouldnt fit your agenda. Primo had nowhere near the experience that the number indicated. Also factor in that he was learning on the job.

    Agenda?
You mean like arguing that withholding purses wasn't normal in Carnera's time.
And then becoming silent, and dismissive when proof is provided showing otherwise?

Can one of the Carnera fan club give me an example of present day SHWs whom you would favour Primo against?

    A. Joshua?
    L. Ortiz?
    D. Wilder?
    D. Price?
    S. Briggs?

I understand you feel he is underrated, but to what extent? What chance would he have against the 5 named above?

I think after reviewing quite a bit of film on the man, more so than I have in recent years, I have to say he was much better than expected. The rumors, gossip, myths, that surrounded his career and involvement with mobsters I think truly robs Carnera of the hard work, dedication, tremendous courage, toughness, and skills that he had as a fighter. I do know that the myth that he was solely a manufactured heavyweight is just that, a myth. He lost decisions legit to Sharkey and others who were world class guys, and he picked up what he needed to learn on the job and beat Sharkey for the title legit, and defeated Tommy Loughran legit; a man who was just a manufactured fighter would have been kayoed in an instant against a legit contender, and he got up 11 times against Max Baer. That kind of toughness comes from desire and from superb conditioning, as well as true ability to fend off a good portion of the punishment. Heck he won the worlds hwt championship and defended it successfully TWICE. Give credit where credit is due. The things I notice on film that I am impressed with by Carnera is that for being nearly 6'6" and 270 pounds he was quite nimble on his feet, he had a excellent jab, and unlike the giants of today I don't see him rely on the lean/clinch, he threw uppercuts on the inside and dug to the body. The only weaknesses I see on film of him is that Carnera was at times tenative, and because of his extreme muscularity he lacked the fluidity one would expect a top rated fighter to have; and I do not know if it was because he was punching downward and that shaved some power off, or if it was because of this lack of fluidity, or because he was afraid to hurt someone, but he lacked the kind of power one would assume a man of his size of having; but then again, Jess Willard wasnt bombing people away quickly either, nor did Nicolae Valuev, or for that matter Vlad Klitschko.

    Well said Perry.
Now that's an analysis grounded in reality.

There are some here who say that Carnera had no defense, and their reasoning is that he lost to the two best punchers of the decade. And two of the best punchers of all time. lol

What does that make Wladmir? Who got knocked out by non top 20 punchers?

mcvey,Wrong yet again! Carnera had more experience of fighting Super heavies than any fighter up to the present!

Impelletiere was a novice and he out boxed Carnera until he ran out of gas.
    Carnera had fought:
    Jose Santa
    George Godfrey
Victor Campolo x2 The last time only 3 months earlier!
    Bearcat Wright
    Seal Harris
    John Shwake
    George Trafton
    Impelletiere had fought Santa.

You should have stuck to the training section, because your credibility took a real nose dive when you began your Jeannette crusade and continued arguing with yourself for several pages.

Louis said Carnera had no power and pushed his right yet he uppercuts Sharkey to unconsciousness with the same hand?

At present time I would make Joshua a strong favourite over Carnera, and I would be fairly comfortable picking Carnera over Price.

The other three are guys who accomplished a lot less on paper, but where the fight could go either way due to their power.

No, there are some saying he did not have marvelous defence which is the title of your thread!
You know f*ck all about Carnera as is evident when you said he hadn't the experience of fighting super heavies when he faced Impelletiere.
    Here is your ignorant post.

"Since you know so much, how many guys of Carnera or Impelletiere size had each ever fought? It was probably not many if any. So it was a new experience for both but no doubt Carnera got more in than he received "

For your information Carnera had fought the following Superheavies when he faced Impelletiere.
    Campolo x2
    Santa
    Humbeeck
    Harris
    Owens
    Lodge
    Sigman
    Erickson
    Montgomery
    Clark
    Taylor
    Zaveta
    Baker
    Redmond
    Gorman
    Shwake
    Trafton
    Godfrey
    Zupan
    Roberti

There are some who say Carnera did not have"marvelous defence and the films of his fight confirm it,all his career he was caught with right hands from fighters of all levels.
If you kept your stupid mouth shut now and again you might actually educate yourself on Carnera instead of pretending you have the slightest idea what you are talking about!
