You left some essential comments out of that quote , which is your usual M O.Here they are.

Despite 22 knockouts in his 25-0 record, Gerry Cooney remains a mystery man. His buildup to this expected $10 million bonanza for each boxer is the most carefully controlled con since Primo Carnera won the heavyweight title half a century ago.

The difference, of course, is that Primo Carnera's ascension to the title was surrounded by scandal. Many of his opponents were considered to be setups. In contrast, Gerry Cooney's rise has been tarnished not by suspicion, only by honest questions. Can he take a punch? Can he endure beyond the first few rounds? Can he keep his cool in the cauldron of the gaudy ''big fight'' scene.

''The difference,'' says Harry Markson, the former Madison Square Garden boxing impresario, ''is that Carnera was exploited, while Cooney has been the exploiter.''

Primo Carnera's career is perhaps best remembered as the sad inspiration for the motion picture ''The Harder They Fall.'' And yet Ray Arcel, the 82-year-old trainer who is a consultant to Larry Holmes, considers Primo Carnera to have been a ''more accomplished boxer'' than Gerry Cooney is now.

''Carnera could jab and move, and by the time he fought for the title he had about 80 fights,'' Ray Arcel says. ''To me, Cooney is absolutely inexperienced.''

Oh wow you're right, that is deliberate misinformation completely taken out of context. Ray Arcel didnt even call him accomplished but just more accomplished than Cooney by the time he challenged Holmes. And more accomplished doesnt even necessarily mean more skilled. Just that he had accomplished more and then he makes it clear that he's talking about Cooney's Inexperience. This is hardly Ray Arcel endorsing Carnera as a great HW

I misjudged you I thought at first you were misreading things ,you're not, you are deliberately trying to interpret them in a manner that suits you, knowingly falsifying the facts with a blatant disregard for the truth.

    Zero credibility from now on.

Well this is a version of Cooney who was challenging Holmes for the lineal title, and who many saw as a good candidate to beat him.

This probably was a fairly tangible endorsement at the time.

Not an endorsement of him being a "great HW". Besides the article was about Cooney and Arcel was asked about Cooney and he is criticizing or being sceptical about Cooney, the aim was obviously not to praise Carnera. He called Carnera winning the title a con. "Carnera could jab and move" Since when does that mean Arcel thought he was a great HW??? Plenty of HWs could "jab and move". And being more accomplished than Cooney before Cooney had even fought Holmes means nothing because Carnera had won the title while Cooney hadnt but ARCEL STILL CALLED THAT ACCOMPLISHMENT A CON!!!

He was just comparing him to Cooney,Choklab has a history of conveniently omitting what would harm his case.

    This one.
" is the most carefully controlled con since Primo Carnera won the heavyweight title half a century ago. "
    And this one.
"is that Primo Carnera's ascension to the title was surrounded by scandal. Many of his opponents were considered to be setups."

The one where you state Arcel is endorsing Carnera as a "great HW" because some people thought Cooney could beat Holmes when Arcel clearly doesnt and only uses Carnera as a measuring stick(in a clearly negative way) to state that he thinks even less/is sceptical of Cooney than Carnera because Cooney has accomplished less and is less experienced.

So he his basically saying that Carnera was a carefully managed fighter, and that his rise to the title was surrounded by scandal.

I would have told you exactly the same things myself!
