Leonard vs Tendler is a longer version than the other I watched before on YT..... A bit sad to watch Leonard so past of his prime against McLarnin.....
Watching the footage of the McLarnin bout. I really think if they had given Leonard better oppoents going in. He would have won or at least done a lot better. Leonard was as well liked as he was good. So his comeback bouts before the McLarnin bout were more about giving him a chance to regain his welth than they were about prepareing him for good oppoents like McLarnin.
He looks like a great boxer. The flims is speeded up but you can see who he moves. The way he controls Tendler and moves him wher he wants him. You can almost see him thinking in there. Ray Arcel referred to his mental energy.
True but Ray Arcel was in his early twenties when he would watch Leonard fight in Ny and watch him in the NY gyms in NY as my dad did...My dad would relate to me when Leonard would spar in the gym EVERYBODY woul stop what they were doing at watch the master...As they did with Ray Robinson 20 years later at Stillman's gym...Two genius's of the ring...
And Leonard would look at everyone in the gymn; said even if he learned what not to do he'd be learning something.
thanks for this longer version of leonard vs tendler. even with the grainy, black and white footage, it's very easy to see how great leonard was. tendler could fight too. good stuff, thanks!
True but he idolized Benny Leonard. He learned a great deal about boxing from him. Mannie Seamon worked as his trainer through his prime years.
