Who comes out victorious? The happy feeted, extremelly skilled, experienced, Southpaw Crusher, pinpoint accurate, Lightweight GOAT by resume, the man who if had he not existed, Roberto DurĂ¡n also wouldn't have, Benny Leonard Or The modern, ice skater, pyromaniac of combinations, WHAT-IF Undisputed Champion, Ukranian pride, probably the greatest and bestest Olympian to ever drew breath, Vasiliy Lomachenko?
We've got more available footage of Loma, and he looks like the more overall skilled and layered operator there compared to Leonard. That said, it really is just a lack of footage thing. I'm not convinced at all that Leonard is inherently inferior to Loma. His movement, foot speed, feinting game, use of angles and positioning are clearly all superb, his ring IQ is evident, and he was a really hard puncher according to the era's accounts. He also clearly had intangibles that Loma would only dream of having. He also went 4-0 against a guy that managed to beat a prime Greb, and beat one of the top 5 or so greatest Welterweights ever in Jack Britton, so that helps. Loma also snatched defeat at the face of victory more times than I'm comfortable with. Loma looks better on film, but my gut tells me Leonard was probably better. I'm taking Leonard.
Old school guys still always have their myths and delusions to try and say how old time fighters are all magically better then modern guys. Fact of the matter is 9 times out of 10 bigger stronger faster modern fighter who fights in a style that the past fighter has never seen will beat the older fighter. Such is the case here Loma just too fast for Leonard to deal with imo
