    The Frenchman who never surrendered. Not once was he stopped in over 200 bouts. Slick as snot, too.

    comparable in some ways to paulie mallinaggi in that he had a great chin and not a lot of power.
    superb boxing skills by all accounts.

    he even fought in brooklyn too.

    Arcel said he was comparable to Benny Leonard as a ring general.

    Many years ago I met the retired elderly Benny Valger in Coney Island area of Bklyn. Might have been the best pure boxing LW ever. Lacked punching power though...

    Never heard of him until l read a bio on Arcel but he sure had a high opinion of him. I can't recall which 70's fight took place but l recall Arcel reaching watching someone sparring and reaching into the back of his memory and comparing him to Valgar.

    I believe that fighter was Ken Buchanan, though I may be mistaken.
