Ok I've always thought this was a "WTF" KO. I know of Ali's "phantom punch" and people say Etienne dove against Tyson, what I don't hear about is wtf Trevor Berbick's problem was. Both the Phantom Punch and the right that hit Etienne can be seen connecting on the chin, the latter was even a beatiful shot from a good angle..but the latest Tyson tribute video reminded me that against Berbick, the punch landed on his arm, and he stood up and fell down 3 times? WTF?! This needs to be discussed more here. 4:38 of the video on this thread. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96844 edit: go to 5:21 for an overhead angle.
I don't think he took a dive. Too many people look at Tyson's performances against Buster, Evander, Razor, Lennox, etc... and assume that the decent guys he actually beat took dives because he was owned so bad by fighters with a pulse. I think Berbick was just overwhelmed by the whole event.
Ok seriously people look at this ****ing KO before you respond with your bull****. It is far stranger then either the phantom punch or the Etieimtiredoftypinghis****ing name punch. A paid dive? Probably not but this is not a knockout punch, and he was throwing before it landed.
Watch the whole fight - I think you will find that he had undergone a relentless pounding. He was absolutely pounded till his body gave in - it was pretty brutal.
It was a brutal onesided beating that ended in one of the most famous KOs ever, that was no dive, that was history, the youngest HW champ in history.
Go to 5:21 in the video on the first post for the better angle. Overhead angle clearly shows what I'm talking about.
By all means Tyson beat the **** out of him, I used the word dive mainly to get people to come in, but I do believe that this stand up falldown routine may have been the acting of a guy who didn't want to be there anymore.
