It seems that most favor Berbick against Razor Ruddock .So what s the result with Trevor against these fairly modern big hitter's ? Frank Bruno Mike Weaver David Tua Earnie Shavers Tommy Morrison All scheduled for 12 round s
Hard to say. Berbick was durable and game, but lacked the refined skills and ring generalship to avoid getting hit by world class punchers – and didn’t quite have that ATG level of durability where he could get away with it. Tua and Shavers are imo the hardest punchers on the list and very likely to get the KO. Morrison has the two-fisted combination punching and aggressive style to possibly get Berbick out of there early, but would find himself swimming against the current if the fight goes beyond the 4th round. Bruno had a great jab and solid boxing skills, and would like win a competitive fight, either by KO or decision. Not sure about Weaver, since I haven't watched any of his fights in ages. Maybe he could get Berbick out of there in a tough fight, I don't know.
50/50 with Bruno, being British I favour him but if I was betting I'd put it on Berbick Points/late KO As a 15 year old, I've never watched much Weaver (just never felt I needed to) so I'll skip this one Tua late TKO whilst trailing on the cards (somewhat comparble with the Rahman fight) Shavers- I'm not truly sold on Shavers as a fighter. I am on his Power but his chin is very suspect. Berbick later TKO, like the Randell Tex Cobb fight, Morrison wins by TKO on the night he dazzled Mercer for the first 3 rounds he'd take out quite a few heavyweights, Berbick being one of them IMO
At his best I think Berbick beats everybody on the list. Berbick was very inconsistent though and would sometimes show up out of shape. Around 214 lbs he was a very capable fighter, but at 218+ he wasn’t so great and it showed in his performances.
Trev could give any of them a hard fight .Bruno and Tua would knock him out I think. Shavers too but could go Trevs way. Morrison depends on getting the fight finished quick.Berbick was a total nutter !
Berbick was utterly unpredictable, beating guys you thought he wouldn't and losing to ones you'd think he'd beat. He is a man of intangibles, pretty good heart, pretty resilient, strong as an ox or ox-like creature, but at times lazy and vulnerable. He'd probably find a way to go .500 against this list.
To be honest Phil ,I expected it to be lot more in Ruddock s favour, so it s surprised me slightly that a good few poster's picked Berbick. But he was a durable guy who had the better wins so I see why some go for him .
Lol ,he was def a character .Don't know why but I can see a Bruno fight going pretty one sided in favour of Frank .His jab busting up Trev's face and Berbick losing heart ,and being pulled out .
I think Clever Trevor loses 4 of the 5 by ko or most likely tko. I do not like his defense and pressure style 1 iota against the big hitters. His constant wading in style gets him ko'd just like Tyson and Mercado did with Berbick walking into punches. Constantly walking in and he does not have the firepower to trade. But that's what he wanted to do was trade on the outside and then work himself inside where he was effective. And his wanting to constantly backup the opponent. Works against some styles but not big hitters where he walks straight into punches. His best opponent would be Weaver. That bout was talked about somewhat during Mike's reign, but did not happen. A lot of guys wanted to fight Weaver for the tile though--a lot easier matchup than with Larry Holmes. But Weaver was so lazy at times where Trevor could out muscle him and certainly outworks him. I'm not sure if Weaver could land his left hooks to the body to have an effect on Berbick. And I also do not recall too many going to Trevor's body, come to think of it. Maybe he takes a good shot to the breadbasket---if so, Weaver's chances of a victory would be reduced quite a bit. And this is one of the few guys where Berbick has a big edge in handspeed---not too many of those.
I've got Tua taking him out fast ,more so than the rest tbh .In a similar way to Tyson ,but maybe not with Trevor Rollin Around the ring !
