Quarry win was an absolute fluke.

Berbick was certainly inconsistant ,but where did he "show some dog"? He was pretty durable too apart from being kod by big puncher Bernado Mercado I think he took a good shot ,until Tyson stopped him ,and then he was trying to continue, but his legs woudn't obey him.

Can't really even fault him for the Mercado loss considering how green he was at the time.

Like faulting Young for being stopped by Shaver's. Look what he did to Shaver's during the rematch.

For those who are reducing Trevor Berbick's title to a mere alpha fragment, I would like to take a moment to point something out. Berbick won that title by beating a prime, undefeated Pinklon Thomas who some of you have screamed in the past was ducked by Larry Holmes. Trevor also defeated Greg Page and John Tate, who likewise were in their primes, and men that some felt Holmes should have faced. This crap about alpha titles meaning nothing, needs to be put into perspective. While I agree that there have been many manufactured title reigns in the history of the sport, Berbick was a tad better than a lot of men who wore plastic trinckets around their wastes.....

this fight was slated for halifax nova scotia in 1978 i think, chuvalo was like 39 years old.chuvalo told the promoters i want 25,000 and the fight moved to toronto it did happen and the fight cancelled.even at 39 i don't think berbick wanted chuvalo,i met trevor in halifax a few times[once right after the holmes fight] he never impressed me much,my sister-in-law had a business doing ladies nails there berbick walked in and wanted a manacure when she told him she didn't do men's nails he treatened her thats what berbick was like a real *******

Berbick wins on a close decision over Chuvalo, but it could go either way.

chuvalo nailed quarry with a good left hook and jerry went done.only to bounce to his feet quickly but then take a kneeling position.the referee counted 9,10 and quarry never got to his feet.i saw that feet many times and i feel guarry was dizzy from the punch i mean chuvalo caught him a pretty good shot.a few on here don't like to accept the fact but george won that fight by ko,the only time jerry was ever counted out

    Chuvalo could really fight.
I cant say the same for Berbick.
Have you ever seen George fight.
Watch his fight with Floyd Patterson.
Chuvalo had much more skill, speed and definately power than Berbick.

Chuvalo was basically being outboxed, until he scored a flash knockdown. Quarry decided to take his time getting up, and from what I've heard, was unscathed. Apparently, he mistimed the count and rose just in time to be counted out........Most people view this fight as bull****.........

    Thank you for acknowledging that.

So you're saying that Quarry did not miscalculate the count, and that he was a thoroughly beaten fighter with no chance of winning that match?

if quarry miscalculated the count thats his problem not chuvalo's.personly i think he took a good shot got back up then took a knee because he was still unsteady.the referee was standing right over him i've watched the fight many times, yes he was out boxing george but chuvalo had roughed him up pretty good a few times with body shots watch the fight
