Berbick vs Chuvalo

Berbick was definately an *******, and I don't need personal stories to believe that. The man was convicted of everything from ****, battery, drugs and assault. He was even deported from the United States at one point in time, and ended up in an early grave in his home town in Jamaica. I believe it had something to do with a land despute with one of his relatives, or so I've been told.

Anyway, had Berbick and Chuvalo met in 1978, the outcome could have gone either way. Trevor probably had something like 5 professional fights at the time, while Chuvalo was at the very end of his career. In what probably would have been an 8 round scheduled match, anyone could have taken it. Still, I'd lean towards Trevor winning when both were at their absolute best.

Yeah, he was a real piece of crap. Rarely do I ever say that someone deserves what he got, but in this case I'll make an exception.

 

Being considered the best in the world doesn't mean anything if you come to the ring underprepared and suffering from substance addiction.

One can pick and mix big wins from both men's careers.

Would you pick Berbick to beat Quarry?

 

Well, I would certainly give Quarry a better chance to beat Berbick than I would Chuvalo. His counter punching style and overall boxing ability would seem to gel better against Berbick than Chuvalo's would.

 

Do you think Berbick was a better infighter than Chuvalo?

 

He worked the body fairly well, and could certainly take a good punch. Was he a better infighter? I couldn't say for sure.
