So Bermane Stiverne surprises about 90% of us by beating the **** out of Chris Arreloa in elimination fight. By Vitaly simply ignoring him, Bermane's win seems to be for not. WTF?
If Vitali decides to fight again he still easily outpoints Stiverne en route to a dominate UD. MAYBE a late stoppage.
You think so? Stiverne struggled with a shot Ray Austin, I was impressed by his win over Arreola but I don't see how he beats Vitali...
Wasn't that big a surprise. Arreola has never been that good and lost whenever he fought anyone who wasn't a journeymen or shot to hell. For me it was a 50/50 fight. I feel really sorry for Stiverne he's been strung along for so long now. He's been the mandatory challenger for well over 2 years now and still not been able to get his title shot.
I'd like to see a Stiverne-Arreola rematch. Stiverne deserves a rematch because even though he got knocked down with a big shot early in the fight that broke his nose he was tough enough to fight to the end.
Getting dropped early and having your fat ass kicked for the rest of the fight shouldn't have anyone clamouring for a rematch. Arreola has lost every time he has stepped up and he did nothing to earn a shot at an eliminator to begin with. Arreola should actually beat someone decent to earn a shot at Stiverne.
stiverne should just forget about vitaly at the moment. and maybe try calling wlad out. but he needs to stay active. stiverne vs any top 10 fighter should come off right now.
If Vitali retired Stiverne-Arreola II should be the the WBC title. In the convoluted world of the WBC Arreola earned that shot be beating the highly WBC ranked (at the time) Seth Mitchell. At least they can both have a fight while Vitali decides if he is going to retire. I was actually under the impression the above is close to what is actually slated to happen.
Ray Austin gave a lot of people trouble but at the end of the day he got KO'ed. Five years before, but Austin drew with an Ibragimov who was touted as a big deal in the heavyweight division (to be fair he accomplished quite a bit, but should have handled a Ray Austin). Austin also beat serviceable opponents like a pre broken down Owen Beck, Draw with a tricky Larry Donald, and even the fight before Stiverne was giving Solis a good fight. Austin was never anyone's pushover from 2001 on unless your name was Wlad.
There is talk of a rematch with Arreola/Stiverne. Vitali is not concerned about losing to Stiverne, he will knock Stiverne out if they do fight. Vlad would not have any problem knocking Stiverne out either.
