That was one hell of a break out performance for Stiverne. Whare are all the clowns who were claiming last week that B-Ware was a flat out "bum" with "no-skill" and a "glass chin"??? OK, his stamina didn't seem the greatest, (think he'd be better at 235-240lbs).... and he pulled back with his hands low, and got cracked with flush right hands a few times. (did show a decent chin though)... But overall, a real good display of skill, power and toughness for Bermane. The jab was working,,, setting up nice combinations with a good variety of punches upstairs and downstairs,,, and just enough lateral movement to keep Chris chasing and reaching. But the key to everything was those killer body shots! As soon as he started dropping in those body shots the fight changed (even before the knockdown) You could see the shock in Arreola's face. WTF? :yikes
I agree. I had Arreola by KO in 3 but this guy Bermane is a GOOD FIGHTER! If you can drop Arreola, yeah you have power and if you can take some of his shots flush on the chin, make him miss etc Bermane has serious skill. He can box or punch.
His skills aren't bad for a HW but I wait for his next fights to see if he really improved that much because he looked bad in some of his fights but maybe he has really improved
You're right,,, He does seem a little inconsistent from fight to fight. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
It's great to see a guy his age actually improve, and of course he deserves all the respect he's getting. - But lets' not get carried away. He's a smallish HW, without the speed or defense of a Mike Tyson, so he'll always be at a disadvantage against a big, skilled HW. His next fight, assuming it's against a serious contender, will definitely tell the story. One thing's for sure, Stiverne's gonna' make the HW division a lot more interesting, at least for a short while.
Bermane looked good. He surprised me with his performance. Would be nice to see him in with some of the other heavies not named Klitschko. Arreola, however... was not in shape and really showed none of the fire he used to show when he was first hittin the scene. He needs to lay off the tall cans and burritos and he needs to get his ass in the gym.
He looked tired at some points. Yet it was a good win for him. I laugh at the people who say he was just a slugger with no skills and chin. I said nothing before the fight just because I never saw him fight. Against Arreola he looked good. But remember Arreola is very easy to hit. Lets see how Bermane does when he faces a high skilled and fast boxer. But he is a serious contender now and should get his shot at old Vitali.
Maybe better than I originally gave him credit for, but he would still get destroyed by the Klitschkos, Pulev, Haye, Povetkin, Scott and Fury.
btw, depite all the praise I give B-Ware, I'm not sure if his particular style would be all that effective vs Vitali. (if Vitali isn't shot that is)
I really thought that Arreola was going KO Bermane. (Even had money on the fight). So good for Bermane.
Lets not get carried away here.... I know for a fact that Povetkin would beat Ray Austin more convincingly than Stiverne did, and I'm pretty sure he'd do the same with Arreola. I would still favor Povetkin over Stiverne, but it would be a good fight for sure.
None of those guys would get outboxed by an ancient shot to **** Ray Austin for the better part of 10 rounds.....
