Why would you post it in the British forum, when you're talking about an Irish fighter?

as much as i love (no homo) Dunne, i have to say no, but in fairness to him other boxers have beaten much worst fighters and are able to call themselves champions.

BTW i saw Bernard Dunne in Liffey Valley today with his family, i felt like a fourteen year old girl who had just seen one of the Jonas brothers

I consider a real champ to be the no 1 of his division.

Dunne was not even the no 1 within the WBA !!

why the ****s he retiring anyway ??

He made it into the top ten of a division for an extremley short peroid

    He will be back !!

Absolutely , he beat a very good champion who had a win over the linear champion, I think dunne is just an old 30 year old , not sure how many amature fights he had , but it would have to be in the hundreds. He did well.

Because he no longer has the motivation to fight.

he got brutally KO'd twice in his career, its hard to come back from that and i'm sure his family don't want to witness that again, i think he made the right decision to retire

Extraordinary reading Bernard (hated Americans pronouncing it BurNARD) Dunne's packed-it-in. Seems like just yesterday i met this quiet skinny kid with a devilish grin at the Wild Card Gym hopin' to make it as a pro.

He was a bone-white stick figure in trunks -- hardly intimidating -- but he had real skills: a stick, could bang, use the entire ring, 'n loved to mix-it-up -- far more than he needed to, 'n wasn't adverse to throwin' an "accidental" elbow or nut punch for payback.

We lived near each other, before he went back to Ireland, (he was always homesick) so I got to know him fairly well. Hard not to like him; he was a Leprechaun.

I'll always think of him as a world champion; it's what he wanted more than anything.

The hunger is gone, he's achieved his aims in life(as far as boxing goes) and wants to concentrate on his family life now. He has a 3 year old daughter and a 2 year old son, and says he doesn't want to go on 12 week training camps being away from them anymore, as they're starting to get to an age where they will remember all the time their father was away when they're older.

He did an interview on an Irish chat show Friday.

scroll down a little and it's on the right hand side, 'Late Late Show- Bernard Dunne'

He and his family seem very content in his decision.
