"After a lot of thought and reflection the time has finally come to bring my career as a professional boxer to an end. For the past 25 years boxing has been my life but now it is time for a fresh start….to win a world title is something I will never forget and something I am so proud of and I would like to thank everyone who helped make that possible." - BERNARD DUNNE Great warrior! I wish him good luck! :happy Thanks for the memories champ! What a war this was! i remember watching that cordoba fight and cheering for dunne who i knew little about before that fight. dunne showed massive heart in that fight and can always say he was a champion.
Fuggin' warrior. Smart decision. Takes balls to retire this early with marbles intact. Wish him well. Hope he stays away unlike many others. Cheerio!:good
The Cordoba fight was an instant classic and deserved to be Fight Of the Year. Also I'm Irish so it was even better.
Bit of a shock the rumours were going around he would be back but he can hold his head high won a World title and was in 2 wars. I hope he has no regrets about it but thanks for the memories.
As a general rule, participants in unanimous top-three FOTY candidates are pretty much exempt from the designation of being "chinny". :nono
http://www.rte.ie/sport/boxing/2010/0219/dunneb.html Well done to him, he brought boxing back to the mainstream in Ireland. All the best to him in the future.
Fantastic guy who was in some very exciting fights. I wish him all the best in his future endevours. He pretty much single handedly revived boxing in Ireland. Thank you Bernard.
The Cordoba fight was great, Bernard was a very exciting fighter. He obviously felt he had achieved everything he wanted and was capable of, so it's a smart desicion. Yes you could have called him chinny but for me it just showed his fighting spirit and heart, to recover from knockout losses and climb off the canvas to win a title. Thanks for the memories Champ. Those Irish commentators are hysterical. I never heard so many ways to pronounce Cordoba, and then they celebrated wildly after Cordoba slipped.
