Why did this guy retire? A record of 30-2 and at the time only 29 years old?

Why didn't he carry on for a few more pay days?

I spoke to lad i was working with today about this, but he was always very gaunt and seemed drained at the weight. Maybe he saw that he wasn't going to be the very best in a tough division and felt it was better to end it there and then rather then hold out for paydays and risk more heavy losses. He knew he wouldn't achieve any more then he did that unforgettable night against Cordoba.

Although surprising it was a perfectly timed retirement. A fantastic night against Cordoba which all boxing fans will most likely never forget, then came up short to one of the best division at the time - he didn't need to carry on.

Yeah in hindsight it was the right time to retire.

I still say he would of beaten molitor if they had of got it on, which would of been another good name on his resume.

He does well for himself as an analysist on Irish tv.

Right time to bow out took some heavy knock outs add to that Cordoba was hurting him a lot. It's a shame that RTE weren't able to capitalise on the interest Dunne got for local boxing. Peters tried hard with Macklin and almost anyone else that he thought could get some sort of following but it never took off. Which some of the Am's turned over at the time could of being getting some very good fights over here but it just didn't happen.

Incredible fight for Cordoba though good to see him getting remembered for that rather than the other fights.

I was ringside for the Cordoba fight. Better than any other sporting occasion I've ever witnessed. To be honest though - Dunne did the right thing. He got out with a few bob in his pocket without being greedy. He made sure he kept his health in check and prioritised that over everything. Remember, he could never box in the UK cause he failed a brain scan there. Ironicallly, he seems to be one of the most intelligent analysts I have seen on the tv including all the stations I watch in UK/US and home in Ireland.
