Joppy was no easy dude to beat.

He showed impressive skills and respectable punching power.

Same exact thing happened with fmj at ww, currently happening with ggg, will be happening with Spence over the next many years.

It's the same cycles, when fighters are far greater than their competition most have too hard a time accepting this reality and make the same excuses generation after generation.

Always the same ****, this forum has been guilty of it as of right now, GGG is right in the middle if it, fought no one because he's so much enter than everyone .

No one is going to truly test him any time soon, well, maybe Canelo I guess Canelo can push anyone right now

Joppy is essentially the Jacobs of his day. Powerful fighter but not a hi tech boxer. Good win... He was the best US MW barring Hopkins for a period till Taylor came a long.

That was the first card I ever attended. December 13, 2003 if my memory held up. Don King put on a decent card that night. drenlou is right that Spinks got the decision over Mayorga. Rahman fought Ruiz in one of the sloppiest fights I've ever seen live. Zab iced some dude in like 45 seconds. Travis Simms who was getting a little push back then from the King camp fought on the card. And Rosendo Alvarez(the dude that drew with Finito Lopez) fought Victor Burgos.

As for Hopkins-Joppy. There was most definitely a 100k side bet between the two...like wutang mentioned. And both of them were out to win that dough. Hopkins certainly was masterful. He gave Joppy a hell of a beating that night. To his credit, Joppy stood in there and took his lumps like a man. I thought for sure he was gonna fold at some point. Poor guy looked like ET after the fight.
