Sweet Pea - I remember you from your post in my Darchinyan - Arbachakov matchup thread, you seem to know your stuff........You have to be kidding.

boarderline top 10 mw, bias much lol i think you should take a peek at a list of mw's, re-evaluate that statement.

skill wise, a very good fighter but certainly not a great.

    Nice research.
I agree his Middleweight reign is overrated.
Also believe his legacy is somewhat overrated.
His best wins besides Tarver, however great they were at the time, came against fighters coming up from their best divisions to fight him (Tito, Oscar, Winky, Pavlik). And besides Tarver, he lost to every other elite fighter he didn't hold a size advantage over.

These losses also came not coincidentily against the fastest fighters he fought (Jones, Taylor, Calzaghe) indicating a stylistic weakness. Oscar's speed allowed him to stay in the fight early too, until Hopkins inevitably wore him down. This shortcoming should count against him in ATG h2h matchups.

The best thing that can be said about Bernard is this: he beat who he was meant to beat. that in itself is a tremendous accomplishment. he stayed sharp, conditioned and was professional in his career enough to always bet who he was favoured to- and also score a few upsets here and there. Now that may not get many props here- but in itself its a tremendous thing to have accomplished. How many boxers are there out there who won every fight they were meant to- ?? Oscar (tito) ? Shane (vernon) ? Pac (morales/marquez) ?

What i mean is- yeah Bhop never smahshed through the best like he should have and went on a tear of upsets- but he did his job- in his way- you gotta respect that. its not as easy as said. You gotta always be on- always be on your game. Even Kobe gets burned some nights by a Kevin Martin every now and then. But every now and then he ll still pop 60. Bhop? he never got burned by anyone he was nt meant to - and still put up some big against all odds wins.

You can dismiss his wins all you like- and say they were overrated- but its not easy to do in a sport lke this- where each fight gets progresively harder- as your body breaks down. Even takingo n 10 tomato can defences- isnt as easy as it looks- and Bhop took on some tough guys along the way.

I swear the guys here have to be the most difficult group of people to impress..give the man your respect.

You call that research? You just pulled that crap up from Boxrec. DId you even watch the Mercado draw? If you did, you would know that Hopkins was robbed even though he was dropped twice. He dominated Mercado so bad that Mercado's hometown judges were forced to score it a draw when they could have easily given him the robbery win.

Hopkins possibly has better wins, just, but his losses put him behind Calzaghe.

I don't know if the end of Calzaghe's career was better than what Hopkins has done. I think his wins over Lacy are equivalent to Pavlik or Tarver, Hopkins best win by a mile.

You're entitled to your opinion. There's a large group who think Hopkins merits consideration among the top 20-30 fighters of all time and the top 3 MW's. I hardly think I'm overrating him by calling him borderline top 10 at the weight. I just appreciate his skills, and the dominance and longevity he displayed at the weight. His past prime, higher weight achievements really bring his skills into proper context I think. I would call Hopkins a great fighter, and I have absolutely no bias whatsoever regarding him. He wouldn't make a list of my top 30 favorites.

You overrate this win. Johnson had beaten nobody and went on to lose six of his next ten fights. The fact that 7 or 8 years later he had managed to become a competitive top ten fighter shouldn't make this win better.

You underrate this one greatly. Trinidad is Hopkin's signature win. He can in no way be considered 'at the end of his career' going into that fight (he's 8 years younger than Hopkins ffs!), he was 28, in his prime, ranked top three P4P and a heavy favourite to win.

Also underrated. You make a great play of the fact that DLH was a LMW who only had one previous fight at 160, but don't mention that the fight wasn't made at 160. The weight for the fight was set at 158, but Hopkins came in at 156, so he was only 2lbs above the LMW limit. Hopkins had the number four rated P4P fighter in the division below him, he went down in weight to fight him and he kicked his arse.

Everyones record can be broken down. I rate Hopkins as an ATG because of his longevity, but his career as MW champ is overrated - even if I had him winning against Jermain Taylor twice. He's far from the best MW ever, even if he may have had the most defenses. He's a good MW champ, could've been great if he had had more good wins against strong opposition. But Hopkins had some of his best wins after he moved up - Tarver, Pavlik and arguably Calzaghe (I had him winning that one) - these fights cement his legacy as an ATG. And it's not even finished yet. That said, as it stands now, Roy Jones and Toney are above him when it comes to resume.

Hopkins would beat the dog**** out of Hagler. So would Monzon. RJJ would toy with him like a child. Seriously, you're such a dick... I also heard you were a pedophile.

The only reason Nard gets so disrespected around here is because of the massive number of posters who love Hagler's Village People style mustache, who are afraid that any positive word about Hopkins downgrades Hagler.

How many welterweights moving up beat Hopkins like SRL beat Hagler? How many even give him a decent fight?

Hopkins is the biggest fraud in boxing. His whole campaign at middleweight was only because he didn't want to challenge himself and move up in weight. He still hates on Mayweather in every fight I see him in.

The guys that did beat him were - suprise - young or bigger. The guy ducked an RJJ fight for years.

And to think people on here have the nerve to have a pop at Joe Calzaghes title reign. Hopkins best 2 wins there were agaist former welterweights the rest were non entities. And of coarse JC didn`t lose to anyone at 168lbs. He was clearly a superior fighter than Hopkins.
