Could all this waiting be a masterstroke by Frank Warren?

It seems that both fighters have agreed to face each other, the money has been agreed, the month agreed... so what's the problem? Joe Calzaghe & Frank Warren have been a bit bitter since Hopkins essentially pulled out of an agreed fight with Joe 4 years ago. It does seem that Warren has purposely waited until after Jones/Trinidad fight tonight to make an announcement. Could it be possible that Warren has already agreed a fight with RJJ should he win later this evening? That would surely **** Hopkins off no-end.

Or maybe they could even go back to Hopkins and say "RJJ is offering twice as much as you, give me $10 million and the fight is yours" just like Hopkins did all those years ago.

It would be a great move and put Hopkins in his place for being a twat all those years ago.

Calzaghe would be seen as a scared *****.

What would really be justice is if Hopkins signed for the fight, then pulled out due to Hand injuries, which Joe C did to Glen Johnson....twice!!!!

Hopkins could have his shot after Jones Jnr and get his preferred date close to some dependence day in July, like he wanted all along.

Joe pulled out of Johnson fights, like you said, with injuries - Hopkins just pulled out.

No Joe pulled out through a back injury the second time.

Calzaghe needs this fight more for his legacy than hopkins does. Hopkins could retire with he legacy intact but im sure he would be able to find another big fight if didnt want to retire. For Calzaghe, beating Jones wont mean **** and wont legitimise his legacy like a win over Hopkins.

Is beating a 43 year old really that impressive in the first place?

As Hopkins hasn't beaten any real opposition for a number of years, it's pure speculation.

Calzaghe needs the Hopkins fight more, so I don't think they are playing the waiting game on the Jones-Tito match-up. But as Jones already made it clear that he wants Calzaghe next and at 168 I see this 'hesitation' from Warren as a pressure game on the GBP team (as Joe can pick Hopkins and Jones too, Hopkins’ only option is Joe)

I don't think that money (it's good, and it's 50-50), date (April was Warren's condition) or the place (U.S. was GBP's condition) is an issue anymore. There are other issues like who's promoting the event (GBP alone or it’s a co-promotion), who's right to delegate the officials, choose the gloves, ring size, ticket sales, US/UK promotion, PPV share etc. And I see HBO is hesitating a little bit as Oscar hasn't made up his mind yet (but close to it) to fight or not fight in May and if he fights it will be on PPV or not (2 PPVs in a short time could be a marketing problem.)

So some issues are depending on GBP, HBO and it looks like the Jones-Trinidad fight. But there's a 99% chance that Hopkins-Calzaghe will happen and there's a 80% chance that some paperwork has already been done.

So there’s no need to worry!

Yeah he beat Tarver (after Tarver beat the guy Joe was scared to face twice...Glen Johnson - who Hopkins also beat), and then beat Winky Wright (whom was at the time rated above Joe Calzaghe in the P4P rankings, and only dropped after the loss to BHOP and Calzaghe went up after beating Manfredo...who just lost to a rusty Jeff Lacy, who happens to sadly be Joe's most credible opponent???).

As for a "masterstroke" by Frank Warren...do you know who Frank Warren is? He's a joke outside of the UK.

I'll take Tarver and Winky over Lacy and Manfredo in terms of QUALITY of opposition. They're about 3 classes above...and we'd know, they're our fighters.

And beating a 43 year old man should be expected.

Bernard Hopkins will beat Calzaghe easy if they fight. Calzaghe knows this.

Why do the Calzaghe fanatics (not the fans...two different animals) have one outlook on the Calzaghe - Hopkins negotiations?

Either if Hopkins backs out, he is scared of Joe....or if Calzaghe backs out, its Bernards fault!!!

    Show some consistancy people. Please....
