For me, B-Hop ranks in the top-25, but if he were to beat Calzaghe, then I think that would enahance his legacy even more, even though his legacy is already secure. If he beats Calzaghe, who is ranked in top-3 P4P right now, I reckon there's an argument that Hopkinsshould be in the top-15 all time. Much better to have this debate after the Calzaghe fight. By the way, while Hopkins will be the underdog against Joe, I think he's a very LIVE & able underdog at that.
I see your point. However, moving up two weights and beating Tarver was massive for his legacy. Nobody was giving Hopkins a prayer going into that fight. He was coming off two losses, and was sharing a ring with the best light-heavyweight in the world. Tarver was among the best "pound for pound" fighters in the world at the time. People will say in hindight about Tarver struggling to make the weight, with his poor effort and below par performance making life easier for Hopkins. But never forget, Hopkins was a massive underdog. Nobody gave him a chance. If the Toney fight was the best win of Jones' career, then Hopkins should get equal credit for his win over Tarver.
For his ability to win fights, I'd place him somewhere around 20-30. For entertainment value, just about as low as it gets. The guy is Mr. Boring Bernard Hopkins!
