Well, Sues post appropriately put a timeline on what I was trying to say. I think the problem here is that you have somehow transported the Hopkins of today who can pick his opponents and is a big name and very experienced with the Hopkins of 1991-1996, who was an ex-con with zero fan base fighting his way up the ranks and not nearly as accomplished. You're right, he was stuck fighting guys like Gilbert Baptist at the Blue Horizon, you think he's going to pick up the phone, call Michael ****ing Nunn and get that fight! It's not a serious position. It's the equivalent of say, in fifteen years if somebody like Juan Manuel Lopez goes on to have a great career, saying that he ducked Pac, Marquez, Morales, Barrera and Hamed! It makes no sense. Hopkins during his prime years, and even today, is not a huge draw, and it was only after the Trinidad fight that he got real leverage. Since that point nobody can argue that he has fought a murderer's row. I agree it's unfortunate that he never got to fight the guys you listed, but I would have loved to see Hagler-Monzon and Napoles-Leonard fight too. List some guys from 96-2001 who Hopkins should have fought. A time when at least he had a belt and some leverage. Otherwise you're just being silly.
so what you are saying is Hopkins refused to fight anyone worth his salt in a division above but anyone with a name from down to 4 divisions below?
yeah and pacman fights dlh 3 different weight divisions away.... jones jumps to heavy, adamek goes to cruiser .... leonard met lalonde at a catch weight. point being, dont say because they went up to super middle, that was the end all. fights COULD HAVE BEEN MADE. youre a true nut sucker for making an exuse for EVERY guy on that list....... point is, we are talking about an 8 pound difference. so i guess theres no way any fight could have been made after a guy goes up 8 pounds. and all the guys they had last fight at 160 in 92, 93, 94....you made my point.....thats a 3 year window dumb ass to make a fight......atschatsch
atsch So you are saying that Hopkins should have fought those guys before he had a title in 94 and earlier? Really? Or you are saying that he should have either...moved up and given up on his quest of consecutive defenses to fight fighters out of their primes or begged a few of those fighters out of retirement? Or what about Gman? Face it...you mentioned a couple of good - great MWs, hoping noone would check up to see if you had any clue what you are talking about. I mean, it was YOU who said that he never made a fight with any of these "great MWs" during his reign. Just stop posting...
