No he wasnt knocked out but Khan lost to a fighter who could go on to be a great fighter himself, time will tell the same it will with Pavlik (ive given up on Lacy already) where as Hopkins lot to a bum with a record of 3-1 when he retired. Who was hypeing Khan up to have a devine right to the title? Khan wasnt. Silly fans and media were, is that really his fault? Its what comes with an olympic medal, you are made out to be the 'next best thing'.

Was it Lacys fault he was hyped as the next Tyson?

I pretty sure video evidence can be seen of Khan claiming he was going to be fighting for the world title some years ago. We were told he was going to be the youngest "world" champion since Naseem Hamed (I don't recognise WBO for the record).

What's your point then? You honestly don't think Hopkins is an ATG? Fine if that's what you believe but it definitely disqualifies Calzaghe also. As for Khan, lets wait and see if he can beat a genuine lightweight before he's mentioned in the same breath as Hopkins.

yes, he said he wanted to be Britains youngest champion, is having that dream a bad thing? For the record I wasnt in anyway comparing Khan to Hopkins, just the fact that a britain with a nothing special first 20 fights gets told to 'step-up' all the time, when as Hopkins never recieved any abuse after 20 fights even though he had a worse record! Why is this never brought up?

The fact that you cant use thier correct names and resort to name calling makes your point invalid.

THe other point to make and often talked about is Hopkins' number of title defenses at MW. Of all fighters he defended against, only Johnson, Trinidad, Oscar and possibly Simon Brown are HoF'mers. That is 4/17 guys....is this a stuff of legends?

Probably because Hopkins wasn't initiated into the boxing world with a golden spoon in his mouth. He had to take whatever fights he could to work his way up the rankings. Anyway, it's not just as simple as looking at opponents records. A lot of Khans opponents were succesful at lower weight classes.

Right so you think Khan's opponents have been as good as Wright, DLH and Tito? Do you even think before you post?

obviously not, but Khan has 15 years ahead of him, Hopkins is pretty much done, you are talking about Khan beating lower weight fighters after 20 bouts, but in reality Hopkins biggest wins in his entire career came over small fighters with names. He lost to the 2 ATG fighters of his weight-class. In no way do I think Khan will ever go on to be comparable with Hopkins but after 20 fights its fair to say Khan had the better competition....over lower weight fighters....but....Bernards BEST wins were over lower weight fighters. Khan still has a chance to write his legacy.

How is that? Toney has fought better oppositon and three weight class champion. If it was not for the steriod use, he would have been HW champ like RJJ was. I have respect for Hopkins accomplishments, but his career got a huge boost beating smaller guys in Tito and Oscar. Money makers. He still a ATG due to his defences at MW. To the thread starter, most champs and fighters pad their records with fighting fighters with losing records. More so in the past then the present I believe. Surprisingly, Oscar has done the opposite and fought fighters with winning records since he started. Someone thought maybe Amir was going to be move the same way, but it did not work out that way. It is still not too late, Hopkins vs Toney at HW before they retire.
