It still seems to me, from what you're saying, the sole purpose of this thread was to tear down Hopkins in an attempt to raise the status of European fighters. Bit pointless don't you think? Wouldn't we be better off talking about more pressing issues such as the lack of a linear heavyweight champion, the damage Frank Warren is doing to boxing in this country and the lack of quality fighters coming through the ranks?

The point of them thread was to see through the myth that is Bernard Hopkins. I compared him to one Euro fighter in the post and that was Khan and how Khan got alot more stick for having alot better record of fighters on his resume (even though Im really no fan of Khan).

So who do you deem a genuine modern day ATG and what criteria do you insist on to qualify them as such?

Sure he got abuse. HBO's Merchant was always all over him for fighting some of these guys, but if Hakkar is the mandatory? Either you fight him or they take the belt.

(I dont wish to use Calzaghe but I will)

Well.......Calzaghe was allegedly not an ATG until recently, supposedly you have to beat a fellow ATG to become an ATG according to many people on here. The only ATG's Bernard beat were small guys who started 25lbs+ lighter than he did! He lost to Jones and Calzaghe those were the only legitimate fights.

This thread has everything to do with Calzaghe and you aren't fooling anyone.

  10. You don’t have to punch Hopkins in the face to beat off Khan.

Modern day ATG at what weight?

Somebody who beat the best fighters in and above their favored weight division, only defeats were against good (at least) fighters.

    Jones Jnr is undoubtedly ATG.

no it dosent, maybe you are addicted to Calzaghe, im not.

  13. BHop is a great, first WBC/WBA/WBO/IBF Champion and never been KOd.

Khan might be just as great, just depends on how he handles Pac & Prescott.

Just compare what Jones and Toney were doing back in the early to mid 90s with what Hopkins was doing and you will see the huge difference in level of opposition. I have listed long ago all the top fighters that Hopkins could have fought during the 90s.

Good thing Hopkins lost to Taylor in a way that he has to move up and finally fought real competition otherwise we would have prolly seen him fight Allen for the 10th time.

Hopkins is an ATG but he is not top 3 MW all time.

it is clear that you have touched a nerve with bernard's boys. lots of abuse and name calling but no real valid rebuttal. bernard beat big names but not at their true weight. it seems they are all up for dishing out abuse to that welsh bloke but believe bernard's record to be sacrosanct and resent any criticism, however mild.
perfectly fair thread in my opinion.

by the way ALL TIME GREAT, what DOES that mean. top 3 ever in a weight division, top 5, top 10 ?
    just a thought.
