Both Hopkins & Calzaghe only even have their damn legacies because Jones moved up from 160 & 168, respectively :deal.

What does this have to do with either of their first 20 pro fights?

Once upon a time there was a fighter who not only lost his first pro fight, but went on to lose 2 of his first 5. He improved, but not quickly. In about his 15th fight he got stopped by a can who was 2-5. At one point his record stood at 25-4, and he lost in his first attempt at a world title.

The same fighter went on to dominate 3 divisions, and he was the first man to succesfully defend world titles from 3 divisions. Today he is universally recognized as an ATG, and is one of the most respected figures in boxing history. For those who haven't figured it out, I'm talking about Alexis Arguello.

If Arran wants to make comparisons, he should try making some that actually make sense, and Arran, the next time you mention Amir Kahn and BHop in the same post, go shoot yourself.

Is Amir Khan not British? Someone im really not a fan of, somebody I was happy to see KO'd.

What does pro British have to do with a Hopkins thread?

Hopkins Cazlaghe and Roy Jones are all ATG's and all 3 would be highly successfull from 160-175 in ANY era.

I cant actually believe there are people saying otherwise.

Yes he is an all time great, can you not see the amount of challenges the guy keeps taking at the age he is.

He has fought everyone you could have wanted him to fight.

He has got nothing else left to prove and even if he retired today nobody would question his ATG status and for anyone to make a post about it basically doesn't really know the sport of boxing.

He is one of a kind and he learnt the basics and stuck with them, even if he lost all power tomorrow he would still be able to defend himself with the basics in boxing.
He is a old school throw back fighter and he learnt his trade the hard way.

Not like alot of these pre-madonna's out there now who get specialist this and specialist that to help them. Hopkins is straight up no frills, like Mike Tyson coming into the ring with just his black shorts and black robe. No fancy glittery ****.

Hopkins record speaks for itself and the guy is still looking for the next challenge.
He is a legend and should be put in the Top 5 of best ever middleweights without a doubt.

    peace...

You can break down anyone's career like that and I would still tell you the same thing.

Bernard Hopkins beat who he had to beat at the times he had to beat them.

You sound like you havent been following boxing for long.

a fighters 1st 20 fights are not supposed to be against world champions, they are confidence building fights until a major fights comes about.

I can see the points your making but on a level bro it sounds like your winging

The most important fights of a fighters career are the ones at the end of it because those will be the lasting memories before he leaves the sport.

Anyone who always brings up differences in weight just sounds like a straight up ***** whether its you or anyone else on ESB.

If a guy feels he can make weight and fight in a different division thats his choice because he probably thought that he would win going into the fight so whats all this **** about weight.

Skills pays the bills and Hopkins has got skills and if you know anything about boxing you wouldn't have wasted your time to write this thread.

This isn't even debatable and its a Failed argument in my opinion

Hopkins has proved himself over and over and over again so whats with all the cheerleadin and whats with the comparisons with Amir Khan.

Amir Khan still has a long way to go and he's still building, you cant expect him to be slammed in with a world champion just yet.
