Nice work Arran - while Hopkins is indeed an ATG based on his reign at, and unification of MW, his resume is certainly questionable.

Hopkins became undisputed champ when he beat Trinidad.

Post Trinidad, he fought Daniels, Hakkar, Joppy, Allen, DLH and Eastman before losing to Taylor twice.

That's journeyman, contender/journeyman, Tito's leftovers/journeyman/gatekeeper, journeyman, blown up WW/JMW, past his best journeyman.

Considering Hopkins fought his first fight at LHW, and moved back up to LHW and beat Tarver, it would be fair to say Hopkins is a natural LHW, meaning he basically beat up on smaller men for the majority of his boxing career.

I don't deny Hopkins' brilliance, and he has definitely become a better boxer as he has aged, but the OP brings up some good points about the quality of Hopkins opposition.

This not only the one of the more biased and baseless posts I have read on this site...but also its badly inaccurate at times, badly overreactive at times.

I cant believe that people who post things like this (worse yet, BELIEVE things like this) attempt to call themselves "boxing fans".

Ive said it once, I will say it again...boxrec can be a dangerous thing...I doubt Arran has even seen more than 3 Hopkins fights in his career.

I was going to reply seriously to this...but, I mean, why?

you have a poit though that bhop has faced quite a merry mix of fighters from journeymen. I am not really familiar with his fights in his early days. although i know he fought rjj.

can anyone enlighten me here on who has bhop fought that was really physically bigger than him. If i remember it right, i think jc is the one he is at par with. tito and dlh are really bloated up fighters when they went up against bhop..

Hopkins is an ATG . Calzaghe isnt till he mans up and rematches Nard. Joe bragged how he "BEAT" Nard but balks at a rematch even at home in Wales.
Get a set Joe put your ass where your mouth is, or forever have a stain on your legacy

gREAT Post. I only started appreciating Bhop when he was already 39 yrs old and still finding ways to school his opponent. I agree his long reign as a champion is padded with unknowns but his recent victories truly put this guy on the ATG.

    Umm, no, your wrong.

Johnson, Jones, Jackson, Lipsey, Echols, Allen, Holmes, Eastman, Tarver, Taylor, Pavlik, Vanderpool, etc. All were Hopkins size or larger...and most of these (and many others actually) have fought above 160 as well. Hell, even vs Oscar he was outweighed come fight night (Oscar came in at 160, Hop at 154).

I realize you just are gaining knowledge on Hopkins (I applaud you admitting so, when many would just use boxrec to feign knowledge)...so let me lend you some advice. Pretty much 95% of the original post was either off base, factually inaccurate, pure exhaggeration or insane bias.

Do yourself a favor, research his entire career yourself and forget everything you read in the original post.

yes they can. calzaghe never fought on the world stage and thats why he never fought jones or hopkins in their prime.

fighting on the world stage when you say you are the best is EVERYTHING.

thats why hopkins got fights against tito and oscar and jones got fights against ruiz 30 pounds+ above his weight.

if you want to be great you have to dare to be great. you dont sit in wales and let frank warren boof you because it makes you rich - not if you want respect - thats the difference and thats why calzaghe never fought them in their prime.

i dont care what your pride says, this is just the truth.

and i'll debate anybody on this. anyone.

what middleweights haven't faced smaller competition? they were elite and credible opposition it wasn't like if they were fighting ants, don't be stupid. monzon faced napoles, fulmer-robinson, hagler-duran, leonard, hearns, etc. to me B-hops win over an undefeated trinidad is just as credible as joe's win over lacy if not more much more significant. if anyone's ATG's is debateable it should be joe's. beating dinosaur version of roy jones yea that's just great:patsch

If hes not an ATG in his 10 year defence, how good of fighter does it make him fighting at 43 nearly 44 and still near the P4P TOP!!!
I think that ends the debate!!

    are you talking about joe?

if you are then why why has he never fought a proven world class fighter in his prime in all that time?

if you can answer that honestly then you'll know why he gets so much stick
