Hopkins was in that first generation of guys who took advantage of the move away from same-day weigh-ins to dry out and bulk back up.

He turned pro at light heavy, mastered a way to dry out and rehydrate, dropped down TWO divisions, and later he moved back to light heavy when he couldn't dry out anymore.

Hopkins was a much bigger man in the ring than guys like Lupe Aquino, Simon Brown, Oscar (who looked ROUND against Sturm), Trinidad and those guys.

Those guys literally MOVED UP to fight at middleweight.

Hopkins, on the other hand, had to squeeze every ounce of water out of his body to make weight in that division. And he could do it.

But compared to guys like Hagler - who was 5'9" and weighed 157 or 158 on the day of the fight - meeting guys coming up ... Hagler was providing a much fairer playing field. He didn't tower over anyone ... middles, junior middles or welters.

In the early 1980s, when Hagler fought, Hopkins would've been a light heavy until he moved up to heavyweight (because Hopkins never entered the ring below the middleweight limit and he never entered the ring under the 175-pound limit when he was a light heavy).

Hagler was a middleweight. When he was in shape, he weighed in hours before the fight well under the actual middleweight limit and he competed at his best at that weight.

Hopkins never entered the ring a day in his life and competed AS AN ACTUAL middleweight. He'd dry out, weigh in, bulk up and enter the ring as a light heavy.

It's not the same thing at all.

Both Hops and Hagler are super overrated because of this. Hagler even lost to a one eye, shot Leonard. That same Leonard would have been smoked by Terry Norris.

Do you honestly believe Duran is one of Hagler's 2 best career wins?

Oscar wasn't one of his best wins. Oscar lost to Felix Sturm in my opinion. If he had that much trouble with light punching Sturm, what would guys like Echols, Allen, Johnson, etc. have done to Oscar. Trinidad was a middleweight. He beat the **** out of two legit middleweights in Joppy, and Cherifi.

Hagler was pretty much finished at that point, reflexes and foot speed quite poor. Do you believe prime Norris beats prime Hagler?

No because he had a glass jaw. If he fought to win on points and survive he could be make it interesting, but that chin would have failed him.

I hope you realize this is also true for *every single opponent* Hopkins has faced as a professional. So my question is; Exactly why is any of this relevant?

Hopkins ruled over a 160lb division that was as equally weak as the one currently.

The only difference between Hopkins and Golovkin is that Golovkin is brushing aside the type of fighters Hopkins was going the distance with.

I ask you, would Golovkin have had to fight the likes of Robert Allen 3 times?
