Bernard Hopkins DID NOT try to win the fight vs The Krusher

Yes he did pick it up in the last few rounds, like I also mentioned in another thread, but what about the rest of the fight? He looked slow, lethargic and uninterested.
His legs barely moved faster than a snail during any point of the fight, legs appeared totally shot.

I mean just watch the corner every time Hopkins sat down. The look of resignation was plastered all across his face. He had given up, but refused to quit.

He was completely passive, letting Kovalev herd him around the ring and covering up. Kov should of course share some of the blame for being so conservative himself and not forcing Hop to fight more but still you can't tell me Hop was trying to win. He was barely trying anything. Atrocious performance.

Bull****. Yes, it was for legacy, no doubt, and everything he's been doing in recent fights has genuinely been about legacy, but you truly need to be a fool to say he tried to win this fight.

Like a few posters have already said, I suspect that what happened is he went in wanting to win the fight but after he got hit in the first round he decided "screw this."

It reminded me of one of the Pascal fights, I think it was the second one, when at one point in the corner he turned to Nazim and said "I'm gonna win this fight." Before that he wasn't sure, he hadn't made up his mind that he's winning that fight 100%.

Hopkins is (or had been) my favorite fighter and I was terribly disappointed this weekend, terribly disappointed. Of course, not because he lost, but because he didn't have the balls to give himself a chance to win.

 

If anything it should be credit to Kovalev that he never let a master technician like Hopkins find an opening and was very patient... To say Hopkins didn't try is an insult... The man is 49 for christ sakes fighting one of the most dangerous fighters in boxing. Hopkins showed a huge ammount of heart in there.

Kovalev neutralized Hopkins with brute power and tactics. He basically did a Hopkins on Hopkins. You are used to seeing Bernard shut guys down but in this fight he got shut down. That doesn't mean Hopkins didn't come to fight, it means he had no means to fight. Every time he tried something Kovalev countered. Hopkins knew he couldn't win, he tried, but he was neutralized across the board. Those who say he didn't try are the real fools. Don't be that guy.

I bet on Hopkins and really wanted to see him pull off a second undisputed championship. I still think Hopkins beats Stevenson. My hats off to Kovalev.

He was never allowed to throw anything. Especially at 49 years of age, Kovalev was in his face all night feinting, using his legs properly and constantly throwing nonstop without leaving himself open for any counters. He was fully prepared for what Hopkins had at his advanced age and proved it in the ring. Hopkins did try to open up in the 12th but still came up short with Kovalev sticking to his gameplan all the way.

That said, a felon would never exchange blows in the most dangerous sport in the world at 49 years of age. The real felons are worthless keyboard losers like you. One thing you could do is proceed to hang yourself in the nearest toilet and wait for someone to give a damn.

 

If that wasn't survival mode I don't know what is. Hopkins has never been stopped and he wasn't about to let Kovalev be the first guy to do it. His pride wouldn't let him.

He was looking to land something on Kov and hurt him, but def wasn't trying to win the rounds. If he'd opened up more and tried to actually win the rounds he probably woulda got knocked out

 

True, if he tried to win he would have got knocked the hell out.

I analyze boxing for a living, so I think I may have you beat on experience in think area. It doesn't matter, though, I could care less about your opinion. I know the facts and most others know the facts here. If there was a way to win Hopkins would have used it. Anyone with eyes and boxing knowledge could see the things Hopkins was trying and could see the counter footwork and punches from Kovalev. Furthermore anyone who knows Hopkins and has followed his career knows he doesn't throw fights or give up. It not in his nature. Anyway, I'm done arguing with an amateur trying to deny Kovalev credit justify a Hopkins loss with "he didn't try". Go peddle that somewhere else.

 

If there was pride he would have rolled the dice and given himself a chance to win.

As for your analysis, use your eyes next time instead of just deciding on a predetermined narrative.
