Pavlik fight was very good performance. Hard to have better match to end his career with.

Great way to go out.

 

Didn't see that one coming. Figured he still wanted to fight at least another year or two. Not as if he's incapable of still schooling some of the best out there.

 

how many times can hopkins continue to go to the fountain of youth, when the wheels fall off, they will off very badly....maybe its a good decsion

But boxers can crow old overnight. Maybe he doesn’t want to push his luck.

If he's not set on fighting anymore, then I'm glad that he's making an announcement. That way people will hopefully curtail some of their callouts of the great. It also means that Dawson/Johnson II will be for the Ring Light Heavyweight Championship.

I would have thought Hopkin's would have gone out in the ring, make a big song and dance about it, get some decent to average fight for him to execute and give him the tribute he deserves. Oh well, good luck to the guy, true success story coming out of jail and making something with his life.

I respect BHop as a fighter, but outside the ring, he talks petty **** and his attitude of late has been **** poor, basically just demanding that someone fight him because he wants a big payday.

Hopkins was great 98-2001, went on too long, too many boring performances.

Most of his recent fights have been ugly bouts where he's tried to stalemate his opponent instead of being assertive & forcing the win - taylor 1, taylor 2, calzaghe are horrid performances.

best time to leave, with the pavlik masterclass still fresh.

 

If so then it is a sad day. What a way to end your career though! No-one will ever forget that. I'm still gutted that the Adamek fight isn't happening though- based on B-Hop's last performance and the way Adamek fights it looked a fantastic prospect. Ah well, thanks, Bernard. He hardly gets any credit for the way he turned his life around- I have a huge amount of respect for him as a fighter and a person.
