I agree with you somewhat. I think the reason people say Bhop is better than Jones Is becuase Jones got koed two times in a row and than almost got knocked in the third fight with Tarver. Both Tarver and Johnson koed Jones. Bhop tkod Johnson and beat Tarver very badly.
Yea like you said, Roy skill wise. First of all because I have fifty posts on some boxing forum doesnt mean jack ****, I grew up in boxing. Fortanately for guys like you I only post when I see something that I find truly appaling since I was banned a year ago for using a deragatory term in a non offensive way. Roy Jones Jr. (one of my all time favorite fighters) excelled in boxing not through his skill, but through his athletic superiority, cat like reflexes, and awkward yet effective style. Look at Roy now, he mostly fights off the ropes and wins his fights by placing a decent counter here and there and throwing in a nice flashy combo. Skill had nothing to do with Roys rise to the top, it was his Physical superiority and risky effective style. Once he got older and his reflexes slowed just a bit, well we all saw what happened. Hopkins on the other hand has used his skill, his mind, and his determination to take him where he is today. He did what he had to do to win his fights, and don't discredit his record hes fought plenty of top 10 fighters throughout his career. Hopkins is a true master of his art, and on my opinion is on the same, or an even greater level then Jones. Im not trying to be a dick or anything, but to say Jones is on another level then Hopkins, that is just ludicrous, look at his record, the only ATG's he fought are Toney, and HOPKINS!(Trinidad doesn't count)
You never heard me even mention Toney. You better actually learn what boxing is or go back to watching Rampage Jackson & Anderson Silva.
lol i guess silva is the only one he can watch jackson is gonna be:rofl locked up they wont let him out lmao
i think that no one can call a fight between roy jones and bernard hopkins in their primes, its just too close. but i think bernard hopkins achieved more in boxing, he will probably go down as one of the greatest middlleweights of all time wheras roy jones greatest achivement is beating a very poor heavyweight.
Hopkins WAS a great fighter, no doubt about it, but Jones in his prime was better. And regardless of who you think is the better fighter, Jones is by far the better fighter to watch. Hopkins kills fights and generally makes them them pretty dull to watch. Sometimes theres only so much great defense and "ring generalship" you can take before wanting some action!
You're the only one that would disagree with Tarver being better than a prime Virgil Hill, though he probably wasn't quite prime when he faced Jones. Styles make fights sure, but Jones already beat Tarver in their first fight, in as bad of shape as he was. Watch the 5th round of their 3rd bout, where Jones shows flashes of his former brilliance before sliding back down into the old man that he was. He completely tooled Tarver and outclassed him in that round. A prime Roy would've done the same thing all night. Whoopedy doo, he got hit flush on the chin once in his first 15 years and put down for a second. It happens. He dominated the fight otherwise. It's not like he struggled with him outside of that one punch. Griffin was pretty close to A list. He was a top notch fighter at his best, with Eddie Futch in his corner. He was a bad style matchup for the pot-shotting, counter-punching version of Jones. But whenever Roy switched tactics and went on the attack, Griffin was the one overwhelmed, as we saw late in the fight and in the rematch. Yeah, and Hopkins sure went the hard road by taking on such vicious MW's as Robert Allen 3 times, Carl Daniels, Hakkar, Holmes, Vanderpool, Echols, Brown, etc. And let's not forget his career-defining wins over former WW's and JMW's in Oscar, Tito, and Winky. Sorry, but while Roy could've fought better opposition than he did, his opposition was still far superior to Hopkins's. He took at least as many risks as Hopkins.
