overall prime Roy Jones is better than prime Hopkins and its not just because of their head to head fight either. Even when you factor in Hopkins' longevity, Roy Jones is still greater. Roy Jones is the greatest fighter since SRL
no even career wise Roy Jones is on another level, and i was always a bigger fan of Hopkins than RJJ but i'm just being honest
Well, Im talking about where both men will be ranked in boxing. But most def Roy accomplished more and was more impressive. Hopkins will get extra credit for being a champion at the age of 43
It's crazy to keep saying that Roy Jones was just all about athleticism and speed compared to Bernard Hopkins....Roy also happened to be extremely precise with his punches (head and body), had good power and very good ring generalship. Everyone's in love with Bernard being such a great boxer...he's a very good one but let's not forget he fouls a lot and luckily gets away with all the time.. Yes he's smart about it but fouls are fouls... When RJJ beat B-Hop, RJJ was just a kid like B-Hop, so no excuses there ! Abd last...B-hops' resume is far from better than Roy's...
the speed and power roy displayed was due, in large part, to his athleticism. roy is probably the most athletic boxer ever, ever. from a technical stand point, roy did everything wrong. but his physical prowess let him get away with it. when roy beat bernard, bernard was not in his prime, yeah he was young too, but bernard's strength is his mind and his technical skill, which he honed later on in his career. roy in his prime beats bernard at any point in his career. but roy in his prime can beat anybody.
:rofl :rofl Prime Tito @ Middleweight!!! GET THE **** OUTTA HERE!!!!! P.S any day....any time....any weight 60-40 roy kicks his ASSSSS!!!!!
you cant really separate boxing and athletic ability. The fact is that boxing is an athletic pursuit. Its pretty obvious that roy is an athletic freak, it was this athleticism that allowed him to dominate the athletic pursuit of boxing and to do what you are supposed to do - hit and not get hit. bernard is supremely well schooled boxer. But we cant just dismiss roys achievements in the ring by saying it was cos he was athletic. he used his athleticism to push the boundaries of conventional boxing (rarely used jab, lead left hooks etc) and to make him successful in the sport of boxing. yes, hopkins is better technically but you use what you've been given (roy's speed) it would be like comparing delahoya and whittaker. delahoya had better textbook boxing fundamentals like balance, nice jab, footwork. but whittaker used freakish natural ability in beating his opponents. we cant therefore say that since dlh has better fundamentals, he is a better fighter!
sweet pea is a boxing genius. that is just an awful comparison. de le hoya is not a better fighter than sweet pea. you know very little about boxing if you believe what you wrote.
The only thing I agree here is that you're right in that Pavlik won't knock out old B-Hop, and that it will be a close fight no matter who wins. I respect Hopkins a lot. Maybe Hopkins is the better 'pure boxer' than Roy, like you said, but Roy was/is just a better overall fighter. About being a master of hit and not getting hit, yes Hopkins masters that art, but so does Roy, and Roy has beat tougher competition in his career than Hopkins. I don't wanna diminish Hopkins accomplishments in any way, but Roy still has the better record. People criticize Roy for having fought too many B-level opponents during his prime, well so has Hopkins. I've made a thread about this some months ago, comparing their records, it was obvious that Roys record was better than Hopkins. About B-Hop being still green when he fought Roy, well he had over 20 pro fights, that's a lot. Roy didn't have more pro fights at the time they fought (but of course he had a long amateur career). Both were regarded as very promising new talents, Roy had already faced some good competition before Hopkins (Jorge Vaca), but no way was Hopkins green, even if he wasn't in his prime yet. You say a prime Tito is a better fighter than a prime RJJ? I strongly doubt that. And Calzaghe beats Jones easily? I doubt that too. Roy has still got something left, I have this fight at 50/50. We'll see...
