    No he's not, and here's why:

    1. In his "physical prime" he got dominated, out-boxed, out-classed by Bernard Hopkins.

    2. In his "mental prime" he got beat twice by Jermain Taylor and then by Calzaghe

    3. His best wins are against 2 guys who were only great at WW and LMW, Trinidad and Delahoya.

    he was overshadowed by jones.

    he is the macne to pac, except macne actually ko pac with pac closer to his prime, albeit with a drug dealer on macne's side.

    damn, come to think of it, pretty similar:
    pac= jones
    hopkins=macne
    joe=theftjr.

    right? some discrepancies, but pretty close.

    Pavlik and Winky were both 160 lb fighters that moved up to 170 to fight Hopkins. That's 2 classes.

    Bernard Hopkins is a physical specimen. Has always been in incredible shape. Having said that, I do not regard him as an elite fighter. Think about so many of his fights. He constantly hits guys with low shots on the upper thigh. He is always aware of where the ref is and does this on the opposite side. After doing this, when a guy retaliates, he feigns injury. He throws very few punches, waiting to counter punch.

    The guy is a classic con man. I guarantee he himself is amazed he is regarded as an elite fighter because he knows himself he is not. He is tough, rugged, has a great chin, but he is not anywhere close to elite.

    It is hard to go past Hopkins! But being able to win against this level of boxers at his age may say more about how the standard of boxing has slipped.

    he has lost too many times. Winning at his age is great, but he lost to Calzaghe and Taylor and Dawson. If he is the best, what does it make them?

    I think he's in range. They've all got fairly large accomplishments. I suppose it just matters what you value most in boxing and what you think is impressive.
