If you're waiting for Hopkins to tell you he's great then you must have issues. The guy is 44, past it, should be retired and is top 5 P4P scaring young fighters away. If you can't see that then you have issues. It's more than enough he gave Calzaghe his toughest fight to date being 43 years old.
Been watching BHOP since the early 90s. He is an ATG. But, he has been running a smoke and mirrors routine for a while now. Every opponent since Taylor has been old except for the limited (moving up in weight) Pavlik. Bernard was past prime a couple years before the Trinidad fight. Neither Bernard or Calzaghe should have been listed on any p4p list of the past many years (Calzaghe never in any lifetime). BHOP has been selling his story and managing his career optimally. He has been one of the best at that for a good while now. He deserves whatever he can pull off at this point. He is always one fight away from looking horrible and getting shocked though. Age is the ultimate equalizer. He talks about fighting young men but it is unlikely he will walk that road unless cornered. After that dismal performance against a good but never great Calzaghe he needed redemption and chose KP. It worked out. Fortunately. If Chad dominates Glen he will ride off into the sunset with RJJ.
Great post, and I totally agree. BHOP is most definitely an ATG, but he may be the G.O.A.T when it comes to career management and opposition selection in the past four or five years. I'll miss him a lot when he's gone, I just think this whole "youngster killer" angle he's drudged up is a bit of a reach.
What? Man get the **** outta here with that bull****. I'll talk about Bozo the clown in this thread if I want to.
