yeah he is not top 20 I can pull 20 better fighters out of my ass crack. I put roy jones higher then him..
Where are you getting your betting odds from? San Juan? Hopkins was the dominant champion. He was ranked number 1 by The Ring, undefeated in 8 years, clearly the best middleweight - what had Trinidad done? Beat Joppy.....and.....? That is it. All Trinidad did prior to the Hopkisn fight at middleweight was beat Joppy. he was NOT the betting. Even if he was, which I doubt, I have zero doubt that intelligent people knew Hopkins would win. I seem to remember The Ring picking him. Of course they did. Why was De La oya getting outboxed something completely impossible? He had been in the past. He had also been knocked down and hurt by lesser punchers than Hopkins. Saying no-one expected it is a complete exaggeration. A shock sure, but not a HUGE upset. What the **** do you mean he can carry the weight? He looked tired by the 9th round, and threw roughly half what he usuaully does. That comment is ****ing nonsense. Wright can't carry that weight at all. That's why he is dropping 2 or 3 divisions. If you think this was Wright at his best, you are deluded. The weight was his biggest hindrance going into the fight and that proved to come true. At 160lbs, Winky would ahve thrown more and won the fight decisively. It's ****ing Tarver. If you want to make your points seem legit, don't defend him. He's ****. The only one there of any class is Johnson. Hey, I don't dispute that win. it was a fantastic performance for sure. however, it's not a career defining win. Johnson doesn't get into the top 50 at middleweight. The others were nothing fighters. Bollocks. What exactly is this generation? Do we got as far back as Pernell Whitaker? Roy Jones? Even if we do, Mayweather has a better resume.
In terms of the actual Light Heavyweight Division, I have Moore at top spot. Middleweight, I have Hopkins first. Head to head I basically think Roy Jones was the toughest possible match in history for him, and I think if Hopkins had matured a bit as around 1997-2001, he would have beaten Roy in a rematch, though that's a moot point as it never happened. Hopkins and Hagler, head to head, would have had a brutal inside battle, but I think Hopkins comes out ahead, being more deft with his defense.
Looking at this literally, if you put together the 10 best wins of both fighters, how many would Hopkins have in there? 1. Monzon vs. Valdez 2. Monzon vs. Valdez 3. Monzon vs. Napoles 4. Monzon vs. Griffith 5. Monzon vs. Griffith 6. Monzon vs. Benvenuti 7. Monzon vs. Benvenuti 8. Monzon vs. Briscoe 9. Hopkins vs. Tarver 10. Hopkins vs. Trinidad You're right, I wasn't realistic. It's not 10%, it's 20%.
Actually if we go purely by acheivements....he is leaps and bounds ahead of Monzon. I mean, call me crazy, but whos consecutive defense streak did he beat again? :huh
Why? The best opposition all fought Hagler. Leonard, Duran and Hearns were the best 3 boxers of both mens record. What exactly has Hopkins be placed ahead of Hagler? Win at age 42?
I wouldn't rank a lot of those guys ahead of Hopkins' competition really. Wright probably would beat most of them, actually. Hopkins also left the Middleweight division at an advanced age to smash the recognized Light Heavyweight Champion of the time.
Against who? Monzon dominated a division full of HOFers and legitmately great fighters. Hopkisn didn't. Hopkins beat more, yes, but beat far less talent. What is more important? Quality or Quantity?
This is getting ridiculous....now Hopkins is ahead of Hagler, Jones, Monzon, etc? Because he beat a guy who jumped 2 weight classes to fight him? Come on...
Hagler lost to Leonard, by the way. Oh, and Hearns was a natural Welterweight, and Duran a natural Lightweight.
Exactly. The win wasn't even that clear anyway, so it's hardly like it matches up to Monzon beating Napoles, despite what some people think. It's a win which will have a lot of excuses attached to it. Like Hopkins' career really.
It's not being based on this fight alone. Also, Hopkins was fighting at Middleweight while Wright fought six pounds below him. They aren't that different in terms of size.
