sorry I dont know how to split this up like you do so I'll just discuss it as best I can in order of what you wrote-

I'm not saying the betting public determines the validity of an opponent in terms of legacy, what I am saying is it is a good snapshot of the general views in boxing at the time of the fight. I am of the opinion that it matters more how a fight was viewed going into it rather than down the road. I am saying, a win over a guy who is considered a bigger threat to you is more important than a win over a guy who is not considered a threat, at the time the fight is fought. If hopkins fought pavlik now as opposed to when he fought him, it would be less important to his resume. Pac's win over hatton is less impressive than pbfs. In my opinion. I am not exactly saying what you are saying I'm saying hahaha but I am saying context of any fight at the time it is fought is extremely important to legacy.

As for the matchups, I think again I wasn't clear. I am not the only person who has said this by the way, as I think it is the most common re-occurring theme in pbfs career. He waits for guys to show vulnerability, whether its stamina, chin, style, whatever. He never seems to fight the right guys at the right times, although I do think he's gotten better in recent years, and was better when he was younger and up and coming. After his 2nd win against castillo, he fought a long string of fights he shouldn't have, and I think the hatton fight was the only real resume building fight since the castillo fight. I think cotto is the 3rd best fight for him out there, which isn't bad. Ortiz was a walkover, decent fighter but no brain and lack of heart. JMM was wayyy too small but I still give him credit as sometimes you have to go outside your weight class to find a top tier fighter to fight, I preferred that fight to many of his other options.

Your last paragraph, I know it was trying to be funny but it makes no points. I didn't ever say he couldn't have a better resume than hopkins, and you are totally missing my whole argument and breaking it down to try to make it as if I am saying, your resume depends entirely on if you are better or worse than your opposition. If I had to sum up my argument, I'd say it is that resume depends on the matchups being made with the right people at the right time, and taking on challenges that are legit. If PBF beats cotto and beats martinez and pac, within the next year, prior to either of them losing, I'd say then his resume is comparable and maybe even better.

Again just my opinion. I'll stand by my logic though as it keeps winning me money. And I mean, same as judging a fight, judging careers, or comparing careers or fighters from different eras or anything is all completely subjective and can't be proven one way or another, and thats not what I'm trying to do, just provide my basis for why I feel the way I do, but I enjoy the discussion.

Ok I understand that opinion, and I don't think its wrong, its a fair enough way to evaluate the fights. My opinion though is this, and maybe it's because I was at the hopkins fight and witnessed the incredible turn around in the crowd, but its that hopkins had to do something that was incredible and unbelievable almost prior to the fight, whereas mayweather just had to do what anyone would have said he could and should do prior to the hatton fight. I don't mean to undermine the hatton fight I think it was a good solid win, one of pbfs best, but I think the win at hopkins age, in a fight where even philly fans were expecting it to be his last and a loss, is more of a legacy building win, especially the fact he outboxed him so thoroughly.

I think Hopkins is a cooler boxer than Floyd, due to the way he challenges himself and overcome hindrances. If Cotto knocks Floyd out (he wont), I will have a laugh, same thing if Hopkins UD Dawson.

hopkins has never beat an elite fighter at a fair weight in his entire career. everytime bhop fought an elite fighter at a fair weight, he lost (jones, taylor twice, calzaghe) :deal
