You saved me writing precisely this. Not hating on RJJ, he was awesome at his peak. But I surmise him this way (albeit it's a little unfair) he was an athlete who happened to be a boxer. That's not an insult, it's a compliment as I suggest he could have excelled at pretty much any sport he chose to. But when that athletic prowess faded, he didn't have the raw boxing ability to adjust to a new reality. If being a once-in-a-lifetime athlete is one-dimensional, then that was Roy... but what a dimension!

...twice. Hopkins did not get enough credit for landing the cleaner, sharper punches in between Taylor's wild flurries which mostly hit fresh air.

Get your facts straight pal. Roy won when the fight mattered and he was the one chasing the rematch when they were both prime.

Beat B-Hop when it mattered and chased the rematch when it still mattered, even though he was the one who won thier first encounter.

I think if we look at the evidence like comparing there careers in there 30 & 40s then Hopkins blitzes him. Compare there rematch to the first fight again. Hopkins won. These two things tell me that Hopkins was able to adapt to the clock better & negate declining athleticism to some extent.

When roys reflexes were going he simply became a much more beatable fighter & I saw little adjustment in his game. I just saw him caricature himself almost at the end.
