Well I havent seen much of James in his prime at 160. But wasnt he behind on all cards when he knocked out someone? Anyways Hopkins was never behind on cards except for Jones and was a good boxer consistently. As long as Hopkins is on his game which shouldnt be a problem since hes a consistant boxer meaning he is always in shape and always mentally ready then I envision Hopkins by decision in a close fight that can eat at your nerves if your both fighters since both are fighting at a high level despite not being very active. And with few exchanges..
Roy jones jr beat both of them rather easily when he was in his prime 1993-1994..:deal **** why do people keep bringing up Hops-Toney at 160? RJ WHIPPED BOTH OF THIE:yepR ASSES..
I'd go with Hopkins by competitive decision. Toney is best when his opponent comes at him so he can counter. Hopkins is very smart, so he's going to not give Toney that sort of fight and rather use movement and box. Toney was quicker on his feet in his younger days so he'd hold his own in that area, but still I don't think it'd be enough to win. Toney was rather inconsistent at 160, although he looked brilliant in the first McCallum fight (which I thought he won, and thought he lost the rematch).
Hopkins on points, all night long. I don't see anything Toney can bring to this fight that would actually get him the win over Hopkins.
Toney will **** up B-Hops at 160-HW. If Hopkins has a pair, he will answer the challenge. The Gauntlet has been thrown down again.
Peak Toney was a great fighter. So many people on this forum say he wasn't and slag him off because they only remember a fat loud-mouthed heavyweight, and so just bluntly write him off by saying "he had no footwork", as if that means he could never beat any other top class mw - but look at his mw and pre-Jones smw resume. Quality. If I was forced to pick a winner here, I would go Hopkins, but I say that with no real confidence. It would be a titanic struggle this one, and I see Toney hurting Hopkins more than Hopkins would hurt Toney, but in the end I see B-Hop shading more rounds to get a razor-thin verdict.
I think these guys cancel one another out, and this would not be a pretty fight for the casual fan, but the skills on display, especially defence, would be outstanding and I think Toney could sneak a split decision.
