Hopkins has been quoted as saying during a recent press conference that he is dead set on retiring and Calzaghe will be his last opponent.
He was quoted as saying "After April 19 I will retire, the truth is there will be no more fights left for me, Calzaghe is the only fight left that motivates me, "I am doing him a big favor by taking this fight, but after that im done".
"Im already a legend but after i beat Calzaghe i will be an icon", I have run out of opponents so i must retire.
"Joe compared me to Mary Poppins, Well Mary Poppins was a very powerful lady," Joe will regret any comments he has said about me. I have just as much at stake in this fight as he does. This is my final fight, I am cleaning the closet and Calzaghe is the last item to clear.

Well, if he does retire, it would be the smart thing to do. Weighing risk and reward, he's what, 45? There really aren't anymore smart fights to take.

The Calzaghe fight was smart because Calzaghe has never fougth as a Light-Heavyweight; it was also smart considering in his last fight Hopkins fought and beat a southpaw (Winky Wright).

I would like to see Hopkins outpoint Joe then retire. Bringing Calzaghe's unbeaten run to an end at his age would be a huge scalp & nothing could top it.

He's prepared to retire for good because he knows how bad this thrashing is going to be and should be concerned about his health.

That's not farfetched; although Hopkins work-rate is slower, he's much more precise and much stronger than Calzaghe. If he lands his right hand (a money punch against southpaws) and times Calzaghe, he could pull the fight out.

i still dont see how calzaghe can win. he leaves himself wide open all the time, he throws little ***** punches that wont overwhelm hopkins like other fighters are because hopkins is craftier than anybody in the game. i just dont see how calzaghe could put any fear into hopkins or even beat him. and this is not even coming from a hopkins fan, i just dont see why people are saying calzaghe will beat him. because hes old? ask de la hoya, trinidad, wright, tarver or any other of his opponents how it felt to fight an old man. i know you will all bring up the weight issue, but hopkins is still old isnt he? he still has to train and keep his body in shape a little more than most guys right? Hopkins will UD Calzaghe without a doubt. seems like an easy pick to me.

Not really, I've given my rational as to why I think Hopkins will win & I think it's fair. If I'm wrong I'm wrong. It wont make me think any less of him. I think the people expecting to see Calzaghe take Hopkins apart & knock him out are hoping for far too much though. This is going to points either way.

A, don't go big on this one, for real. I don't want you giving too much of your Casa money back when the old man pulls off the so called "impossible".

Why do I doubt that if Hopkins wins, he won't be lured back out again?

Hopkins is right, it will be his last fight, sadly he will lose it!
