Agreed. I have no solid opinion regarding who would win, but these are two of the craftiest fighters that ever were.

In a lot of ways (and I use this phrase a lot), Bernard Hopkins reminds me of a modern day Archie Moore.

Moore, for sure: late TKO. A deal easier than some people on here might think too. :good

I'm a big fan of both, but am interested in hearing why you think it would be a deal easier than some think?

Things are now getting ridiculous regarding Hopkins and H2H match-ups. He's been the subject to a lot of debate on threads this week after arguably the best performance from a fighter in his forties. Hopkins' win over Pavlik was brilliant as he turned back the clock to a showing close to his prime. His whole game was superb and his speed was 'outright' remarkable for a 43 year old.

But beating Archie Moore at light-heavyweight? Thats a brave call. Moore was crafty like Hopkins, but his craftyness was proven at the weight for a long time. And he had the most knockouts of any fighter who ever lived, 141. Hopkins isn't up against a one dimensional light-heavyweight here, he's in with a legend who was extremely skilled. If Moore can take care of someone like Harold Johnson, then Hopkins who was a natural middleweight would be up against it like never before. Who has landed a shot on Hopkins at the weight who has 60% of Moore's power?

Cause Hopkins is overrated outside of middleweight (even a little there too) and Moore is amongst the top few Lightheavyweights ever, plus he had proven chilling power (upon fighting Heavyweights too) and is at least Hopkins equal in terms of everything, better at some things. If Hopkins is ever getting stopped; this fight is one of those rare occasions.

If you want to compare them, as is happening, then Hopkins is in with a more battle hardened fighter who has fought more styles, adapted to them and who was one of the hardest punchers at any weight ever. Power will make a huge difference here.

They are very similar in terms of craftyness but I think Moore´s power makes the difference. It will be a hard fought battle but Moore wins a clear UD. Not even Archie stops B-Hop.

Which Hopkins and which Moore? Moore isn't ko'ing Hopkins thats for sure and this would be a battle of 2 tacticians, a very technical fight, and Moore could be every bit as negative as Hopkins. It would be a very close fight

why not? archie is the all time knockout king, rated # 4 greatest puncher of all time by Ring magazine, and possibly the greatest finisher of all time?

For argument's sake, let's say the Moore who KO'd Olson versus the Hopkins who beat Tarver.

    Because

    1. He's not landing his best shots on Hopkins, who perhaps has the best defense of any Moore opponent
    2. Most of those KO's were against none greats, some past prime fighters, ie he lost to Bivins before Bivins slipped and never beat Bivins until Bivins was past prime and went on a losing streak
    3. For the most part wasn't ko'ing the best LHW's he faced like Johnson or Maxim, Hopkins is better than both
    4. Prime Jones had 1 of the best offenses EVER, he took out opponents that went the distance with Hopkins, Toney, Eubank, Benn, Julian Jackson in 1-3 rounds. Prime Jones couldn't stop Hopkins, Trinidad couldnt, Pavlik couldnt, Calazage couldnt. No one has come close to stopping Hopkins

disagree strongly.. more like bivins beat moore before moore peaked. I have film of archie moore knocking out jimmy bivins TKO 9 in 1947( moore landed a right at the end of the 8th round bivins down out cold...retired on his stool for the 9th because he was so out of it).........and Bivins was 27 years of age then and dont tell me he was not past his prime in 1947 especially considering he was still rated in the top 5 and beating some very good fighters that year.

Bivins prime startd 1943 and lasted until probably 1948

what? archie moore kayoed All time greats jimmy bivins 27 years old, Harold Johnson, jack chase Holman Williams and Lloyd Marshall.......all of these guys were pretty close to there best too....johnson chase and bivins at there absolute peaks.....and williams and marshall in 1945 were still the cream of the crop. in fact, holmand williams and lloyd marshall are arguebably BETTER middleweights than hopkins and archie kayoed them both

Moore also kayoed big talented top rated heavyweights like Bob Baker, who was much much bigger than bernard hopkins

Hopkins wishes he was as good as harold johnson. harold is possibly the best technical boxer of all time on film. Archie KNOCKED out harold johnson and floored the granite chin maxim 3 times.

very good punchers, but archie is in the elite joe louis class as a puncher. archie is arguebably the greatest puncher of all time.
