Yeah, I hear the Monzon fans bitching, but Hopkins on a tight decision.

The key is Monzon's jab. It's clearly better than any jab Hopkins has ever had to deal with. If Hopkins could get under it or avoid it in any way he'll be able to time Monzon with quick counters. He'd be able to make Monzon lead and probably control the distance with his footwork. If he can't avoid the jab (like no one else could), then Monzon controls the range and pace of the action. His reach and ability to control distance takes away a good amount of the success Hopkins would have with his lead right hands and quick surges to get inside.

Both men were so good at controlling the opposition that it's hard to call. I think, Monzon would probably make Hopkins come to him and time him with the jab and straight right, occasionally mixing in some hooks or uppercuts and get the decision in a close fight. I could easily see Hopkins' superior speed and footwork forcing Monzon to lead and then Hopkins is able to counter, but as of the moment I think the other scenario is more likely.

    Monzon close decision.

Monzon by close decision, with his better jab being the key factor. Hopkins himself says that of all the MW greats this is the bout he sees himself losing more often than not based on styles.

:nod (The jab of Winky Wright is nothing to scoff at, BTW, and Hopkins erased it.)

Winky was clearly the smaller man, and the southpaw jab (with as little variety as Wright threw it with) played right into the hands of Hopkins, as it was open to be countered by his straight right. Not the case with Monzon.

As far as controlling the distance, I can't think of a better fighter at this area than Monzon, who was the consumate ring general. Not one to fall into traps, even while leading, which he likely would behind the jab.

Fair points, but I see little chance of Hopkins losing this fight.

That's a very big claim against a ring master like Monzon, who beat everyone he ever faced and didn't lose once throughout the most impressive MW reign ever.

Monzon would lose to Bhop on points or by ko.

I have only seen a fe Monzon fights and a ton of hopkins. I don't think i'm in the best position to decide who could win. From the footage ive seen. Ill say this, if I were a betting man and this was a 15 round fight, i would put my money on Monzon to win via SD.
