"Bernard Hopkins vs Chad Dawson II.....Silence of the Lambs"

Dawshon, as Jerry Izenberg might say, looked to have Hopkin's number in the first fight, but B-Hop being the sly old fox he is might have learned from those few rounds and made adjustments.

Dawson for me though. It looked and looks a bad stylistic match up for B-Hop.

 

Do people just make this **** up or are they really really stupid?

How in five minutes can you say Dawson had anyone's number? He didn't look like he even had the ****ing phone to dial it on. He couldn't land at all on Hopkins, despite being bigger, faster and younger. Meanwhile HE was the one fouling within 60 seconds of the fight starting.

We found out nothing in the first fight.

 

Just watched it back again. It seems I was talking a bit of **** there. At the time it seemed as if he was pressing the action and holding centre ring as well as landing more punches.

He did look the more assertive figure in there though, and Hopkins was circling and retreating a fair bit and if that happens again the rematch I can see Dawson getting the nod in alot of rounds, especially if actually connects with a few more of those shots.

Hopkins has almost always done that in his fights - he tends to be cagey while he figures his opponent out. But crucially Dawson wasn't landing on Hopkins and that was clearly frustrating the younger man.

Now, it also takes Hopkins a few rounds to line up his right hand with real regularity. He was getting closer and closer when the injury happened.

Dawson was well beaten by the technically awful Jean Pascal, who Hopkins handled with relative ease (a little tighter in the first fight due to the KDs, but a complete white-wash in the rematch). Those flaws will always be there in Dawson. His aggression isn't natural and he wasn't fighting in a way that was comfortable for him.

The real question is whether Hopkins has aged enough that he won't be able to handle the tools Dawson has. But Dawson is nothing remarkable - the Hopkins of the Pavlik fight would tool him 9-3 or something like that.

This fight might be a little tighter, only because he's nearly 50, but I can see him sneaking a 7-5 decision where he clearly takes the final rounds to secure a win.

 

Yeah Dawson is flawed but it's all about styles. Hopkins is not the sort to bring the kind of heat Pascal brought earlier in his fight with Dawson, he's going to do his usual routine that you talked about, slowly finding trying to land the right hand and befuddle Dawson in other ways. So he will most likely be facing a deficit simply due to retreating and Dawson is being the more active ( though not neccessarily more effective) and looking the boss.

You think Dawson was frustrated, and maybe he was, but I also thought he looked determined and strong in there. Was able to stop B-Hop clinching and completely took away his jab. I think Hopkins would've struggled with Dawson around the time of the Pavlik fight as well. His jab just has to travel too far against Dawson and Dawson uses his forearm to stop him clinching and messing him up on the inside, unlike Pavlik. Pavlik was also more vulnerable to the things that wore him down in the stretch, whereas all Dawson has to worry about is the right hand. Dawson is just alot bigger and more athletic than Pavlik as well.

We'll see though, it will be interesting to see whether Hopkins does get into his head during the fight and break Dawson's composure, which will then possibly make him susceptible to Hopkin's jab and other punches.

Dawson didnt take away Hopkins jab, Hopkins doent use his jab anymore, he uses it as a distraction for his right hands coming, which is by far his best punch.
Dawson didnt land a meaningful punch in 1st two rounds, and at 48 or whatever age BHop is, hes going to take time to feel into a fight. Look at what happened to him in the 1st Pascal fight.
One thing you can be absolutely sure of, is that Hopkins will have analysed the ring time he spent with Dawson, and learned from it.
Another thing you can be sure of, is that Hopkins is playing mind games with Dawson, he wants Dawson to believe he's afraid of him.
Hopkins spent his teens in prison after growing up on the mean streets of Philly, anyone actually believe hes actually afraid of the passive Dawson is in la la land.
He signed for the rematch as he thinks, no actually he knows, he can beat Dawson.
If not he could have moved to Cruiser and fought Tarver again, for a title and as big a payday, and he knows hes got his number 7 days from 7.
Hopkins wins this fight, make absolutely no mistake about that.

It really is interesting how Hopkins has gone from a heavy favourite on here before the first fight to now the underdog in most people's eyes. The general consesus was that Hopkins would easily be able to disarm him and take advantage of his lack of aggression but after the no contest last time, a lot of people seem to have changed their mind.

I personally haven't looked too much into what happened in the less than 2 rounds on that occasion and still make Hopkins a clear favourite. I'm not complaining though, it's made the bookies odds a lot more enticing :hey
