wow...he dropped 7 pounds and went from the #1 light heavyweight in the world to a human punching bag at 168? 7 pounds made no difference, just an excuse. he called out ward and ward answered his bluff and owned him
Dropping to a division you haven't competed at in 6 years is not an excuse. It is a reason. ------- Anyways... I don't see how anyone can really think Hopkins manages to do any better than he did the last time. Their fight was not close. Dawson won a minimum of 9 rounds, 10 on my card... There's a reason why he didn't fight Dawson despite multiple call outs for years and when he finally did and lost, he said in the ring some very un-Hopkins like things such as: "When they announced the draw score, I thought to myself, 'geez, I hope I don't have to fight this Cruiserweight again.'"
Just a shame as to what happened to him ..I would have gave him a hell of a shot at beating Ward @ 175
look i like ward.... but ward can't punch.... chad had never looked like having a frail chin.... so the fact that ward stopped chad is evidence enough to suggest the weight cut had significant effect..... i agree its chads fault for chasing the money.... h/e @ 175 we would have had a very entertaining close fight.... but we got robbed of that and chad threw away his career.
chad's shot.... he's inactive.... plenty of reason for b-hop to beat a 'less-physically imposing' version of the fighter he fought first time round... chad looks slower/ weaker, b-hop could make it a much uglier fight.... chad was just to big/quick and strong first time... he wont be now.
Hopkins SD. I think he can hurt Dawson early and control most of the action later in the fight. As long as he keeps it close or midrange Hopkins dominates Dawson most of the fight. Dawson might get played mind games by Hopkins and go toe to toe or try to knock him out, like the Pascal fights, and physically he might try to impose himself on Hopkins as he did twice before, but this isn't the same Dawson from the Adamek or even Pascal fight and this isn't the same Hopkins. Hopkins will have to be a smart brawler in this one. Dawson one of the few that can outbox him. But we know he can be outbrawled.
Dawson UD again terrible style matchup for Hopkins, even though Dawson is nearly done Hopkin's style wont really trouble him
once Chad gets his act together he will be able to beat Hopkins again. Wether he will or not get his act together is another matter. This is one of the differences between someone like say Joe calzaghe and Dawson. Calzaghe was obviously an inferior boxer to and much weaker puncher than Dawson whom he justifiably ran in fear from, but Calzaghe had a better mindset, approach, MUCH better cherrypicker and also longevity. Hopkins posseses the longevity in spades.
Who cares is the better option. Dawson might or might not still have it. How do we know after a year layoff. That stevenson ko was brutal though
Dawson is very dependent on being motivated for such and such, if that was for a major Championship, I would believe he would get up for it and get that mental drive. In my personal view, Chad did what nobody else could against this version of Hopkins, drive him back and unleash a series of fast, accurate combinations and show body coordination with that size and that strength. That being said, surely Bernard would fight a different kinda fight and make it one which outcome would be very hard to predict but I still think Chad in normal circumstances beats the top dogs in the LHW Division.
The Bernard Hopkins that was coming off of his shocking and impressive points victory over heavy favorite and defending two-time Ring Magazine World Lightheavyweight Champion Antonio Tarver and the one before the Winky Wright fight would've had enough to drill out a majority points decision win over almost any version of Chad Dawson. As for now, a Hopkins-Dawson trilogy, why? :? Last but not least when it comes to the near handful of fighters that B-Hop has lost to in the last few years like Jermaine Taylor(twice by controversial decisions), & Dawson(rematch) and if you obviously take away the close split decision loss to Joe Calzaghe(which almost could've gone either way) and couple it with the other surprise victory on B-Hop's ledger over previously unbeaten and heavily favored Kelly Pavlik does anybody notice that after tangling with B-Hop that none of these fighters are the same promising fighters as they were before Hopkins and that B-hop has outlasted just about all of them throughout?
