Can't recall if this one has been done before. Who wins at 160? I can see Fullmer bulling and roughing Hopkins against the ropes all night long not giving him room to do anything. As skilled as Bernard has been throughout his long career in Fullmer he is facing one strong guy. Dick Tiger was probably stronger still but because of styles I think Gene would do better than Tiger against Hopkins.

Hopkins would find out that Fullmer was very strong and dirty...if he thought Roy Jones fought dirty with rabbit punching...Fullmer is at a different level with that kind of thing. But with that said, Hopkins has so many avenues to win this fight. Physically strong himself, great footwork, complete versatility, not to mention height and length...It's Hopkins by clear cut decision.

first off, this could be one of the ugliest style matchups in history. i've posted about fullmer before and i completely respect everything he accomplished in the ring but he looks terrible to me on film. hopkins would completely dismantle fullmer. a very ugly hopkins decision imo.

I wonder how Hop's would look chasing Fullmer, who didn't always boar in. Against Webb and Basilio he waited to throw his awkward punches.

Hopkins too big, wins on the jab, an ugly decision I imagine.

I would be much more suprised to see Hopkins win clearly than I would to see fullmer rough him up and win going away. Fullmer beat Robinson. Granted, Robinson was past it then, but he still had more class, more pop in his punches, and more mystique than Hopkins could muster.
If you ain't impressed by Sugar Ray Robinson, and just get in, take his best (one shot excepted) and win, you can beat Hopkins. Because Hopkins won't hurt Fullmer, or even make Fullmer think hopkins can hurt him. Class (???), style, and boxing pretty all favor Hopkins but fullmer will punch through the cute **** and make Hopkins fight.

Would you favour Basilio to beat 'Nard?

I don't know, but he'd make him fight, and I'm certain of that. I decided after some thought that I believe he would beat McCallum.
And I could see Hopkins beating Fullmer but, honestly, I think it is much more likely to go the other way.

You wouldn't need to wonder. Fullmer would be the one chasing Hopkins.

Hopkins looks for a way out after finally encountering a fighter more dirty and roughouse than himself.

Classic case of old timer overrating.

    Hopkins via clear, outclassing decision.

Yep, just because he beat Robinson, Basilio and held his own with Tiger and Giardello we're meant to think he beats a guy that beat Tito, DLH and held his own with Taylor and Calzaghe?

    Talk about overrating the guy...

Hopkins is about 3 levels above Fullmer

Yea Berbick beat Ali so no way a Klitschko could hang with him

The guys that troubled Fullmer were primarily guys that could bang or who were physically as strong so that he couldn't bully them.

If you didn't have either of those things on your side, you were going to get monstered.

Fullmer brings a good combination of boxing skill and good hard in-fighting which will give Hopkins HELL.

Anyone that doesn't see that doesn't know Gene Fullmer or is living with a false notion of Hopkins at middleweight.

    hopkins is a better boxer

but about the dirty stuff lets not forget
hopkins doesnt actually dirty fights lol

when he gets fouled back, he cries non stop to the ref

who ofcourse calls all his fouls accidents
and punishes his foe for fouling him back

this is the one thing i always hated about hopkins
