You can fight at heavyweight at whatever weight you want. Actually, you can at any weight. The weight limits are caps, as long as you are under you are good. There is no cap for heavy.

You actually think a modern day SAC would let a 43 year old man fight at Heavyweight while weighing under 200 pounds??? Doubtful.

Would it make them feel better if he was lugging around 60 lbs of fat like Toney does to be a Heavyweight?

Wrong! The commission and sanctioning bodies requier that you weight within the division weight range. So for Heavyweight it is over 200 lbs. Years ago, when Iran Barkely fought for the WBA middleweight title aginst Sumbu Kalambay he weighed in at 153 lbs and was told he would have to gain weight. So he went off to eat and came back weighing 155.

This fight might interest BHOP because he said he prefers fresh opponents to rematches. Can Toney make Cruiser?

If he had Hopkins discipline he could. But he doesn't, so no he would not be able to.

That is very interesting because amateur tournament officials allowed a reigning supermiddle weight champion come up and fight me at heavyweight a few years back but then I could also recount official regulation breaking that only eye witness could possibly believe

    Not Wrong.

    JLH's point is correct.

The sanctioning bodies weight limits are MAXIMUMS.

There are no minimum weight limits for any division.

State Athletic Commissions are American entities and can come up with any rules they please. Such rules hold no water outside the boundaries of the state.

There is no doubt in my mind that they would let the old man fight, for a slice of the pie.
